Blooms: 4paws' Gladiolus & Lilies

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

This is a thread for all those who participated in the 4paws' Gladiolus & Lilies from Bleek co-op to discuss what they have received and to post pictures of blooms.

Here is the link from which we came http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/792169/

Thank you, Donna.

First off, here is what I received as Pup Art. Which clearly it is not, it's an orange Tiger Lily.

So, all of my lilies have bloomed now. I had 3 that didn't pan out to be what they were suppose to be... I'm missing three:

Yellow Tiger - Bleek already replaced
Double Sphynx
Pup Art

Glads are just beginning to bloom.

The buds of my Yellow Tigers are swelling and starting to show color. They're looking like they'll be red/orange too. Oooh, I need to go outside, some others looked like they would be open today!

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

My Yellow Tigers are not yellow either:( will post a pic of them when it cools down a bit, way to hot out right now to go out, but did see them open this morning. :)Anita
P.S Not sure on any of the others yet.

Ok so far my yellows have opened orange and my stargazer is a pink?

morehead, KY(Zone 6a)

Hey all
My Yellow tigers all turned out to be orange. I did not want this at all. I already have all the orange I can handle. Some bulbs also just shot up and then yellowed and died. Who do we contact with complaints. I am now going to check all my bulbs for correctness after seeing this thread.

My yellow tigers are orange but they are NOT orange tigers. LOL

I have a whole list of pictures, but I never seem to have time to post them. Oh well. I do know that Mt. Duckling and Pixie Pink are identical. I need to look them up to see which if either they are.

My Orange Art is blooming correctly and is STUNNING! Latvia and Cancun are also putting on a lovely show and blooming correctly. While Elodie isn't exactly showing off, a bloom has opened enough for me to see it is double and correct; the new dog hadn't quite figured out what "get out of the garden!" meant while they were in their developmental stage, so I'm just lucky to see a bloom at all, LOL. Except I was kind of thinking I'd put the red double one there?...but in my planting frenzy I'm not sure, just odd that I would have put soft salmon pink next to Matrix where I'm using lots of red and orange hummingbird attractors. Did I see somewhere that someone else had a red double bloom pink?

PHOTOS! PHOTOS! PHOTOS!

Neal, your place has got to be incredible!

I've got cappucino blooming now and it is correct.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Pictures Jess!!

Okay, lol, I'll have to go out despite the heat and snap a few shots!

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

I have a beautiful orange lily blooming, but didn't say so because I can't remember which one it is. Now that Neal mentioned Orange Art, that might be it. Whatever it is, I love it. I'll try to post the picture tonight when I get home from work and you all can help me identify it.

Mine are just starting to bloom and at least one is not matching up on what I ordered. I always like to make tags for my plants as I just like to know what I have. I will post pics as mine bloom out, as I would like to have the correct ones that I ordered for future reference.

See the following pics

This is Mount Duckling....and after checking several photos...I believe this is indeed Mount Ducklng.

Edited to correct mistaken identify of Lilium.

My yellow tigers bloomed orange also and looked like the ones in Anita's pic. Definetely weren't tiger lilies.

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

From what I understand from bleek, who has been privately dmailing people with issues, is that they are tiger lilies by industry standards, and that color looks more like a speckled asiatic. The yellows were incorrect, there is nothing to be done but apologize. It was not intentional. How much did that actually cost? As far as the Elodie that bloomed single, bleek does not know what happened - his bloomed double.

There does not seem to be any big mix up after all - only an issue with the yellow tigers.

Folks, consider the price of those bulbs - if there are a few misnamed ones, how fair is it to expect bleek to replace them for free, when he sold them to us at an incredible price? There is no padding built in for reshipping. I think when you buy in a co-op, or in such great quantities, that some error has to be expected. It's impossible to tell which bulb is which once it's not blooming. If the naming and colors are very important to you, then perhaps co-op buying is something to pass on and go with a company with higher prices.

Apparently every company has some issue with mixed up bulbs and after packing and shipping an order of 4300, I can understand how it could happen. I've only recently heard that the first co-op I hosted with a different company turned out wrongly named bulbs, but that person did not expect me to get her new bulbs, nor did she mention it until recently because of another conversation. They were still incredible blooms and gorgeous, healthy bulbs.

I have been wrong in expecting bleek to deal with the disgruntled people, as in any other co-op, we've not dealt with the vendor as also a member here - the host was the go-between.

Anita, it's probably too early to see glads. They take anywhere from 75-90 days to bloom. Mine from last year have not even sent up stalks.

If you have serious issues, dmail bleek directly, but take into consideration how many great co-ops bleek has done for us and the prices we get. If I were him, I would not agree again. 3 lilies for $1.95 and not an end of season sale! That's not so much more than daylilydaddy's 50 cent Lowe's bulbs that were unnamed.

I've heard that there is an unwritten law - if 90% of what you buy is what you bought and it grows, you are doing amazingly well. For me, I have a lower expectation of success and have discovered that not many flowers match the photos. No matter what, the lilies are lovely are they not?

If you must have a certain color or type in the future, again, perhaps you should consider not buying in a co-op. However, I stand behind bleek - everything I've purchased from him has been wonderful and so inexpensive that I've been able to buy much more than I would have without his special deals.

So, my apologies to bleek for thinking there might have been some big mix up. It's really only the yellow tigers.

edited to correct a few typos...I'm sure there are more.

Laura, I totally agree with all you said. From what I've always understood, buying at wholesale prices typically means no guarantee. Retail companies that offer guarantees are typically considering that in the mark up of plants and covering possible losses that way. I'm thrilled with my $300-500 (retail) worth of lilies for less than $100! My "yellow tigers" will be perfectly at home in what I'm calling the "long, hot border" where all the orange lilies have been going (along with yellows and whites). I don't have any others quite that color either, its one of the darkest oranges I've seen without being more red.

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Laura, I'm not complaining, or looking for any recompense, just wondering what they really were, that's why I chimed in.

I'll just move them somewhere else whenever lilies can be moved since they don't go very well with my pink roses. Also, I thought they were going to be like Ditch lilies which we called Tiger LiIlies in New York. Imagine my surprise when there was only 1 stem, LOL!

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

My 2 cents...My lilies (and 4paws) are all fabulous things! And 4p, your glads are getting ready to open:) My Elodie is correct and still blooming. I think I have a solution...anyone who has something they don't like can send them to meeee, lol! My neighbors are wondering if I already won the lottery with so many beauties blooming. I don't want to tell them how little I paid, so a big THANKS for the wonderful bulbs!!!

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

I agree with 4paws 100%. I spent little money, and got an enormous amount of joy that is going to last all summer. :-) I don't care that I might not have received yellow tiger lilies. Thanks, 4paws and bleek, for a GREAT co-op experience!

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Thank you for the positive responses; bleek and I both want everyone to be happy with their purchases, but where humans and nature are involved...it can't be promised.

tgg, I'm glad to hear they are making you happy and the neighbors wonder. :-)! It's cool to have little "investments" in beauty around the country. I'm really happy with everything I've been planting and that it's been available affordably.

BUT HEY! How come I'm in a warmer place and I see no sign of blooms from last year's very green and sturdy glads? Jealous, jealous, jealous!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I just want to know when the next co-op will be :o) (yes I am a co-op junkie. I admit it)

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

lol
HOST one, dahlin' - you can do it!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Naw I like yours better :o)

morehead, KY(Zone 6a)

Heres my "yellow tiger" It's not what I wanted, but would not trade it for nothing! It is gorgeous. I would like the chance to get some real yellow tigers though.
