Can anyone help identifying this bug. Its common in my garden In southern (mediteranean) Turkey.

Seems to spend its time rooting about in dry leaf debris. Does anyone know if its harmful to plants or people.

This could be Lygaeus equestris (Hemiptera/Heteroptera: Lygaeidae) - see http://farm1.static.flickr.com/71/177947942_a88f489a8f.jpg?v=0
They appear to feed primarily on weedy plants in the family Asclepiadaceae.
