I have some lovely primrose plants that I'd like to harvest the seeds from this year. I have never done it with primroses, just holyhocks, but I'm guessing it is the same. I just let the flowers go to seed and wait until they are dry. Any suggestions or ideas you have would be appreciated. Thank you.
Has anyone harvested primrose seeds before?
I don't know but will be watching the thread for the answer as I rec'd some awesome yellow primrose during a round up and I would love to have more! so glad you asked this question...now lets hope someone has our answer :o)
I collected dry seed and seeded early the next spring. I tried both warm germination and stratification in pots and had better success with stratification. To stratify I put the trays out in a sunny spot in early spring and let the natural freeze, thaw cycle do the rest. I didn't try direct sowing. Some say that primula should be seeded when the seed is fresh which would work for you 2 with your longer growing season. My seedlings were slow growers but established well. Hope this helps.
Thanks Dahlianut!
Yes, thanks Dahlianut. The pods are forming on the flowers right now, so I hope to be as successful as you have been.
