I don't know where to post this so if I am wrong sorry. Iwas over helping my nieghbor get weeds out of her flowers and she was useing a hoe to grab some of the big clumps. She called me over and showed me this thing that she dug up. Ugly it was. An oblong cuckoon and it was open at one end and split down the side. The split side showed membrane material.and slime. The end that was opened had a small oblong mouth orange color that was breathing. She kept hoeing and came up with about 2doz of these things. One was cut in half and it was hollow with the body lineing of orange. Do you know what kind of creatures these would be. Hope not snake eggs. They were from 1 to 2 inches long. Thanks BEV

Were they kind of leathery? If they were, it probably is a snake. What kind of snakes are in your area?

Can we get a pic or are they gone now?

That is what I was afraid of. The out side of the body was gray mottled. The egg was not a shell but like dry tough whiteish paper. They were standing on end in the ground. No pics I never thought of it darn it. There is garter and water mockesin . BEV

you might get more info if you go to Wildlife forum and put snake eggs in the title- I would be 'OK' with garter but not with water moccasin, right in my yard. I supppose if I found them I might be able to not panic and maybe call a nature center nearby to see if any'official' people could handle them, take them to a park?

That's a good idea. Do that and let us know.

The gal that was cutting weeds ditroyed all the eggs!!

That's too bad. For the pic getting, I mean. Garters are good for pest control but you don't want moccasins. You maybe already knew that, though.

They might not have been snakes and might have been something else, too. We're guessing.

Did you post this anywhere else? Sure does not sound like snake eggs to me.

I don't know where to go with it. BEV
