This is the cover of the New Yorker recently. I think it speaks to the mood of all of us during this time of year.

The New Yorker is a love/hate magazine. I love SOME of the essays, a little of the fiction, a little of poetry. Some of the things they uncover and report on are either appalling or amazing. They have the highest credibility of any publication I know.
I even read what going on around town (New York) and other small items that can be very interesting in the editorial section.
But now I need to go dig up some irises and give them to my daughter. She sells a few and I have too many light blues.

Agree with you. I don't much like their in depth political stuff. Some stories are so weird. I usually read the short items near the beginning.
ha- I was reading too quickly and wondered "how does somebody have too many light blue New Yorkers"? I'll be thining irises this year too.

sally, can you post a picture of your New Yorkers? I have a light blue that has spread a lot in two separate locations and am thinking of planting some other iris there. I am giving my light blue irises to my daughter.

HAA haa- This is a nice, darker New Yorker that stays about 18i nches tall that would go well in front of some taller ones. This is smaller in scale than most of my taller pass along bearded iris and does not flop ever, and the flowrs are still a decent size. A shade darker in real life.

Then I have an old New Yorker that is white on top (Upright petals) and dark purple on the bottom-can't seem to find that I have a picture of it. Average tall breaded iris height- lots of them in my neighborhood, probaly all started with one person thirty years ago. I will be thinning this one and the above- they will need a home or be going behind the compost. (are you the person who had forensic books to lend me?)
Also a huge light blue tall one that has to be staked or it just lays down- Huge leaves huge flowers. Nice for large scale site where your hired hands will stake it for you.
