What did this on my Maple tree? This was the only effected leaf. Is it seeds? A fungus?

These are galls, caused by a small fly called the ocellate gall midge (Acericecis ocellaris; formerly Cecidomyia ocellaris) in the family Cecidomyiidae. See http://149.168.1.196/nrid/getDataPub.php?pid=6018
