My 'white' mulberry tree

Oracle , AZ(Zone 8b)

Ok. I will try to send a couple of photos of my tree, my grand daughter, DIL, and their new puppy. (Jade insisted I had to include a picture of 'Skippita'.) I've been researching on how to take cuttings from this tree and I'm just about to get enough nerve to try it!! Will try the photo thing now...... Would like to send four at a time but can't comunicate that idea to my computer........

Whew!! If you look closely you can see the mulberry on the previous photo. Please bear with me .... I'm new at this. This pic (I hope...) is of my GD Jade with a mulberry just seconds before she scarfed it down.

Well, that went good. So I'll try another. Remember, someone did ask me to post a picture of my tree! This one is a better pic of the tree itself, and DIL, and Jade, of course. There has been a lot of die back on this tree so I've been feeding, watering and pruning it hoping to save it. I 've even been known to whisper sweet nothings to it to make it feel really loved. So far so good!
Drat! I've lost the pic........ Erk! Will try again.

Yay! Here it is! Please bear with me, folks. I'm getting there.

Ok. Now for the last pic.... I know this isn't about propagation, however the tree is in the background,..... Well, I guess you could say I was sort of involved in the propagation of the grand daughter! Right? This is Jade and Skippita. Aren't they a pair?!
Now. I just hope someone will read this thread.........
AKKKK!!! I hit the wrong key! Again.... If I ever get this last pic posted I'm going to go lay down for a while! This is exhausting!!!

going to try one more time.......
ok, i am going to rest now...........

Well, I have been trying, unsuccessfully so far, to get some cuttings to root from the mulberry tree..... Took pictures and everything. Only one showed any sign of life and it looks deader than a doornail today. Erk! Tried cuttings from a branch at a different location on the tree. They don't look to good either. Double erk!! I found some babies that sprouted in the flower bed next to the tree and transplated them. So far so good, altho it has been just a fews days. If I keep 'pruning' this tree it's going to look like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree!!

See, they looked real good for about ten minutes....... I used the rooting hormone. I did not put a plastic bag over them. I kept them damp, plenty of humidity. Not much sun light tho. I want to get a couple of grow lights. Any Idea of what I have been doing wrong? Wrong time of year maybe? I really want a couple of seedlings from this tree.......

Strip all the leaves except the very smallest on the tips. Keep in deep shade until new growth develops. Your temps may be too high for rooting. Maybe take inside and put close to a window so they can get a little light.

San Manuel, AZ just checked temperatures. I believe the roots are getting way too hot. If you cannot take them in then put pots into the soil in the deep shade. It is much easier to root things in the fall for me.

I agree, perhaps your temperatures are too warm. Could you bring the cuttings in their containers indoors? Into air conditioning? You might also try some semi-woody cuttings. You will need to cut some of the top out so the cuttings are not too long. I use Rootone hormone powder on my cuttings. Dip the cutting in water first, and make sure that you have cut the cutting just below a node. Many plants produce roots from the leaf nodes.

Hey Jim and amygirl, thanks for the input. I did have the cuttings inside my 'potting shed'. I have a small swamp cooler that I turn on during the day so things won't bake to a crisp. It has been pretty darn warm, monsoon has started so it's a tad cooler now. Three of the tiny transplants still look good. I bought an aquarium pump , etc., at Wally World when I was in Tucson yesterday and will try to set that up today so I can try the water bubbler method. I am not going to give up!! Any and all methods will be tried!! Short of digging up the entire tree and taking it with me when I move in the next couple of months!! I may have to stay here until I am successfull in getting several trees started........ Yeah, I could do that. Stay tuned.......

I ran into a lady a few days ago that propagated mulberry trees. I bought a few from her along with some other trees. Propagating from a climitized plant is a great source of locally hardy plants. Keep your clippers in the car and snip a few cuttings here and there put them in a ice chest in the car. I used to go to the landfill on the island in the winter. Kind of still spring here in the winter for cuttings. I have propagated 4" x 6' long limbs into trees when I first started. Most of my big plants are propagated.

You will get it to take. Bubbler's are good to get it going but rooting does best in soil. I am trying water gel crystals right now to maintain a constant source of moisture and reduce heat. Fall is a snap here you just stick them into soil and they root. Summer is a different creature.

4 to 6' long limbs! Wooohooo! If the bubbler doesn't work I'll try llimbs this fall. I've been trying to explain to the tree what I'm trying to do...... Maybe I'm not speaking mulberryese. sigh
I've got four cuttings bubbling away now. I check them about every 4 hours.... Nothing yet! LOL I am also eyeballing other plants around here. Hmmmmm. I wonder if I could get a cutting started off that bush, or that tree over there?
question about the gel crystals.... Will they readily release the moisture to the plants or will they just gobble it up and hold on to it for dear life? I'll have to get some and try it out. Keep me posted on what your experience is. Thanks for the input. I need all I can get!!
