CLOSED: Weevil?
This is a broad-nosed/short-snouted weevil (Coleoptera: Curculionidae; subfamily Entiminae); it resembles the European snout beetle, Phyllobius oblongus - see http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/61929744 for an image. They are general leaf feeders on many tree species, but seldom do serious damage; their larvae are root feeders.
Thanks again, suunto.
