CLOSED: CLOSED: Caterpillar on grape vine

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Each spring I find these half inch caterpillars chewing on the new grape vine buds.
Any idea what they are?
Thanks

This caterpillar does not appear to be a species that would be a serious pest on grapes. However, I suggest that you contact the University of Massachusetts' Cooperative Extension service for advice - see http://www.umassextension.org/topics/gardening.html for contact information. In the meantime, have a look at the image of the larva of a grape plume moth (Geina persicelidactylus; Lepidoptera: Pterophoridae) at http://www.oardc.ohio-state.edu/grapeipm/images/Grape%20Plume%20Moth%20B.jpg

Thanks, suunto. It only appears as the grapes start growing in spring, eating the inner most tender parts. I found only 4 this season, way less than last year on my one vine.
