I was playing Xbox when I noticed this guy crawling on the living room carpet. It looks as if it could be a Powderpost Beetle but I'm not sure. Those pincers are crazy. I hope there aren't anymore of these around my apartment.
CLOSED: What kind of Beetle is this?
Not to worry; this is a ground beetle (Coleoptera: Carabidae) in the genus Scarites - see http://www.cirrusimage.com/beetles-ground-scarites.htm. It is one of the 'good guys,' being a general predator on other small arthropods; its occurrence indoors is strictly accidental.
That's good too know lol. Thanks a lot =)
Xindi,
we had no record of the genus Scarites in BugFiles, so I have created an entry for the Big-headed Ground Beetle - Scarites subterraneus here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/5104/
I think this is the most likely species for your beetle, and it would be good if you would add your image to that page,
Kennedy
Sure, I just uploaded it to your page
