What are these things?
This is the first time I ever remember seeing them EVER!
I have enought problems with aphids and spider mites . . . now another critter to fight.
They have monster appetites for such a tiny bug.
Also, they do have wings!
Thanks for any help. . .
Emma
CLOSED: Tiny Black Bugs are Eating My Morning Glories. . . .
These are flea beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae; subfamily Galerucinae, tribe Alticini). See http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/flea_beetles_alticini for photos of representative species. They can be very serious garden pests; they absolutely devastate my eggplant seedlings if not watched! See http://attra.ncat.org/attra-pub/fleabeetle.html for hints on organic control methods.
suunto, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the ID.
Looks like I have some studying to do - thanks for the links too.
Wonder why these just all of a sudden appeared when I don't ever remember them before?
Thanks again,
Emma
