pecan tree was mixed in with echeveria elegans

San Angelo, TX(Zone 7b)

I was thinning out some echeveria elegans my MIL gave me and found a tall "bloom" coming up and thought my plant might bloom early. But come to find out- it is a pecan tree.
can I keep it in a pot for a while till I have a more permenant place? Will I need to get another tree?

Vicksburg, MS(Zone 8a)

I've kept very small trees in pots for up to a year before planting them out in the fall (like where you live, it's very hot here so spring isn't really a good time to plant out new trees). I don't grow pecans though so don't know if you need another for pollination.

Here's a link from UC Davis that suggests you would need a 2nd tree

If it is self-sown, that suggests there are plenty of other Pecan trees nearby, so planting additional ones for pollination won't be necessary.

I'm gonna keep it in a pot till my husband and I get to a more permanent place as we are renting right now. I'm gonna see what will come of it.? It grew in my pot for a reason:)
