Witch Hazel has strange things on leaves

Hi, My young witch hazel (3 years old) has strange wart like things on the leaves. Each leaf has one wart, toward the center of the leaf. On the top a pointy wart protrudes...on the underneath you can't see anything amiss.

Any idea what this is?

You are describing a leaf gall on your witch hazel.

They are annoying, but not unusual. I'm pretty sure an insect life cycle stage is responsible, and has no long-term impact for the plant.
