He/she has very good vision, followed me around the sunflower plant!

This does appear to be a nymph of an assassin bug, and from the coloration, it could be that of a wheel bug (Arilus cristata) - see http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek030901.html for a nice article, including images, on this fascinating species.

OMG I love wheel bugs! Last fall there was a female that had died on my back porch, this must be one of it's children.
