More crosses ...

This is a cross from Antoinette (Gourd). This one is Rabenda X President Bush. Looks like a large light lavender bloom. Very pretty! (Thanks, A!)

A - Is it possible for you to post a photo of the bloom of each of Rabenda and P. Bush? I don't know what either looks like.

It's very pretty. The color may be close to the Pres Bush color.

Becky,

Well, I think Gourd has done a fantastic job of doing some crosses and you are a good plant Mom so the best potential of the plant can be seen. Your cross is very pretty too!

I went and did some site searches and found this description of Rabenda.

The President Bush Emma created and grown by Gourd shown here appeared to be a pink progressing blizzard.

Another showing more white.

Your cross might take after the solid parent if it didn`t get the blizzard gene. If it has the progressing blizzard I have seen before the flowers will begin solid or almost solid, begin to look blotchy and then blizzard streaks will appear. If it got a weaker blizzard then you may not see very many markings at all but perhaps random streaking with flowers appearing to be controled by "moods" or something lol! Every day you step outside and scratch your chin puzzling what happened now they look way different from yesterday!

Seedings from the weaker blizzard parent can show more intense patterns of the genes pair to allow more color to show.

I got one out of P. Bush cross that looks just like the photo that Meag posted for Mother's day... so this is a very special MG.. it is coming out several different from so many different pollens it has received.

Thanks A! It does look a lot like Lavender Mist to me, too! That's exactly what I thought when I saw it. Here are 2 more blooms this morning. Lovely!

This is another cross of yours, Antoinette. This one is Blue Jishi X Ten Ten. Looks like Jishi to me! The color is actually a deep purple, but my camera tries to define the color and makes it dark blue.

Here is a closer view of BJ X TT. Camera is converting the deep purple to this dark blue. The flowers seem to be a little larger than the Jishi I grew several months ago.

I have 2 more of the Jishi X Ten Ten seeds growing against my home up a trellis.

Becky, I like very much the character of the leaf texture shown in your last photo there, that one is a keeper!

I am wondering about the first ones, Lavender Mist doesn't have white in the center..

Thanks for posting photos.. sending you a dmail.

A - Thanks! (I replied to your d-mail.) I see some pink on the second and third blooms. I have a feeling as this vine ages that it may start showing some P. Bush bloom characteristics. Time will tell. :-) And ya never know about the Blue Jishi X Ten Ten cross vine ... it too could throw out some unusual blooms as it also ages.

I am seeing all the really interesting blooms on my NOID on the older stem blooms. The first flushes of blooms on a new stem are pretty predictable, but subsequent blooms are often a surprise mix! So I just have a feeling about these crosses you shared with me. We shall see ... :-)

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks, Joseph! The leaves on that cross are very odd looking. I also have one growing along the picket fence which is a just a tiny bit darker in color of the leaves. Same texture though. Can't wait to see more blooms from that cross of Antoinette's!

A - Here is another of your crosses ... Lavender Mist X Tanchou Not. It has those gorgeous big lavender colored blooms like the other cross (Rabenda X P. Bush). I love the variegated leaves! Very pretty vine!

Here are three blooms from Rabenda X President Bush. It looks like some pink showing through on the lavender color blooms.

Here is my 1st bloom on another of Antoinette's crosses. This one is labeled Blue Tie-dye X Fuji no Sora. I don't know what the Blue Tie-dye looks like. This has the spokes of Fuji no Sora, but the color is a much deeper, darker blue.

It looks very much like 'Maisugata':

But it has something else mixed in there. Almost like a Blizzard or something. Really, really nice cross! THANK YOU, A!

OOh, they are really neat.. good for "U"... I've got something similar like that last one. That Blue Tie Dye was from Parks... crossed with fuji no sora... maybe we can start figuring out who the parents are for these JMG names when we get those Japanese new cultivars. Makes me wonder what these others will do... the Fuji Shibori x 1010 is really something.. some are making a couple of pods, but It looks like I will have to intervene next week and start hand pollinating to get more seed. It is a nice small tight flower, no ruffles whatsoever and it is cute..lol

I love the little flag in the middle and 8 spokes and wonderful color too! Karen

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks, A! I am soooo enjoying the seeds you sent me! THANK YOU!

Karen - Seems many of the seeds A sent me have blooms with those little flags! Kinda crazy! I think the bloom actually had 9 spokes. The blooms was so large that it kinda folded over on itself.

Why is it that often the first bloom or two on a MG vine is sometimes so amazing???? And then it never repeats similiar again?

Here is a photo of the Blue Jishi X Ten Ten vine. It had like 8 blooms on it! The red bloom is yesterday's faded bloom. The thing I have noticed about this vine/blooms is that they don't wilt like the other MGs. It's been really hot here too, but the blooms are usually intact at the end of the day. I love it!

I am so glad that you asked for Crosses, no-one else asked for any, they just asked for specific ones and boy, are these surprises neat.. Thanks for growing them and showing them to us.

Are ya kidding, A! My PLEASURE!!! Send me all the crosses you care to share! LOL! I have a new addiction to crosses! LOL!

Here is yet another amazing vine. Shibori Purple X Gray Lady.

A - Could you possibly share photos of the parent vine blooms of these. I didn't know what they looked like until you shared a few photos in d-mail. I think everyone would find it most interesting to see what the parents looked like. Some seemed like they threw an odd gene to get some of these blooms!

Such FUN!!!

Shibori Purple (from JWRMO) labeled shibori purple as he purchased it.. I'll post a couple of photos from last year. If I remember correctly, it did throw some really dark ones in there, it does look blue too.

I do know that the one I hand pollinated did not have any pollen whatsoever, but I don't know how it could come out like it did though.

So my cross is coming out with the solid color green leaves and getting the pattern like the Shibori purple parent, except for those almost solid blooms that have what looks like a bit of blizzard pattern in them. Very cool! Thanks, A for posting those photos!

You guys are amazing! I can't believe the fabulous blooms you're crossing and growing out! Awesome!
