I brought seeds back from Hawaii (Ipomoea pes-caprae) and these little buggers have been hatching out like crazy. I keep the seeds in double plastic so none of them get loose. I also squish them as soon as they come out. Anybody know what type of insect it is?
CLOSED: Seed borers emerging
This beetle belongs to a group known as bean or seed weevils. However, they are not true weevils, but a subfamily (Bruchinae) in the family Chrysomelidae (leaf beetles). See http://www.biodiversityexplorer.org/beetles/chrysomelidae/bruchinae/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruchidae for more information.
thanks, I'll follow your links.
