Hello. I'm New. Anyone here live in the High Desert?

Yucca Valley, CA(Zone 9b)

Gardening in the High Desert (Mohave) is definitely challenging with summers reaching 117 and winters go down to 14 along with 50+ mph winds. Oh ... and the critters ... we have them all including the Mohave Green.

Hello Cactus, Hawn (Hellman) and Liz (LIzrainey) both lived in California..know it's a large state so not sure how close they be to you..but welcome to Daves Garden, you'll meet the nicest people on any of these sites....

Santa Fe, NM

I always think of Santa Fe being high desert but I guess we are more Rocky Mountain. We have cold, snowy winters and Lots of wind, fire and dust all spring. Summers are not especially hot, usually a couple weeks in the high 90's. But DRY most of the time. Check out the South West gardening forum. The people are very nice.

welcome cactus1000. I live in south-central New Mexico. We are at 4900' elevation. Our temps usually go over 100 degrees a few times a year with many days in the 90s and winter temps get down to the teens and even rarely single digits. We had wind gust 60+ mph yesterday. It seems to be an extra windy spring this year.
Critters.. we have them! Had a rattlesnake in my yard a couple of days ago, rabbits and all kinds of birds. If you like birds I'd like to invite you to the birdwatchers forum where I spend most of my time on DG
