very small rex begonia co op

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

escargot has been on my gotta have list for a while now!

This is NOT my picture...but it always inspires me.

It's a picture from a past DG member that some of you may remember that really showcases some begonias.

Wow! That is a great picture. The escargot is a real eye catcher!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah, I saw that picture last year and loved it so much I had it on my work computer as my wallpaper for months and months. Everybody who saw it went "Wow! Is that your yard?"

Wish I could have said yes! Very inspiring.

Saint Louis, MO

I like escargot too. I heard they need a lot of humidity ( as in a greenhouse, although the pictures shows them outdoor). I don't mind plugs. I don't mind waiting longer for more choices too. I also like miniatures for terrarium.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

can i join please?

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

Lorraine,
Did the guy from rexbegonia give a price if we wait 12 weeks?

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

The Violet Barn said the owner will be back Tuesday to answer questions.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, guys, here's what we got. I spoke with (well, emailed with) Keith at Rex Begonia. They sell the liners (plugs) for 48 cents per plant. There are 128 in a flat.

They have a minimum of 3 cases and a 3.95 packing fee. Postage will have to be figured when we know what we want or if we do. I'm gonna guess about 60.00 to me, then whatever I can get i n a box to you.

If there are any of you who live close enough to Gilmer to pick yours up, that is good, or I can ship.

I need to know, do you want to get 3 cases now and more later? Or just wait till later? If we get them now, I can do it again in Sept after they have time to start what we want.

I will let you know as soon as I do about the ones available. The site is

http://rexbegonias.com/index.html

Pam is checking on others, but we'll compare. Just need to know if you want some now. (well, couple weeks)

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

48 cents a plant!!! I say go for it. The Violet Barn show $3.00 a plant on their web page for large orders!
Woo Hoooo...

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Okey doke, now these are plugs, so you'll have to put them in 4 " pots and let them grow out. But, they'll be ready about the time the ones come if we get in Sept.

For this one, I'd really j ust like about 10 people, so I will put all your names down first. If you don't want them, just let me know, K?

Yea, begonias!!!!! Although I still want to talk to him and tie things down and I'd really like to see a picture of the flats. soooooo

(Zone 4b)

I'm very interested in joining in with you guys if it isn't too late. How many liners are in a case? Are the liners all for the same type of plant or do we get to mix it up as long as we end up with 128 plants for a flat?

I'm loving the peperomias in watermelon! But I'm also very fond of the many rex begonias they have!

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8a)

How are you ever going to decide with all the beautiful choices. When will they let you know what is available. I would assume that the 128 have to be of the same one. I would like to be in the hunt for this round. Elaine

Have picked my 10 but don't have time to list them until P.M. Saving my place.

Ok, here we go. Talked to Keith. The plugs are .42 each. Of course shipping to me will be added. He also said to please use Fedex. He almost had a stroke when I said USPS. Said they don't take good care of them. So, I'll be finding out their rates, unless some of you already know.

Now, what we can do is: Go into his site, http://www.rexbegonias.com/BEGONIAS.htm
look at the begonias and tell me what you like. I'd like to keep it to 3 flats because of having to get it right back on the road. I need you to order in lots of 10. Much better bookkeeping for me., lol.

He has plugs that are large and ones that are smaller, I told him we want large.

I will make the order next week and he will ship the following Monday, I'll have them Wed. get them back out Thursday and you should have them Saturday.

LET ME KNOW!!!

Louisville, KY(Zone 6a)

Just got caught up on the thread. Are we still going to order? If so what kind?

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, I am getting things ready to get the fall order up. aCouple people wanted to get a few now, and the guy has a lot in stock, so I thought I"d get a 3 flat order for now, then a big one closer to fall.

If you'd like some now, follow the link http://www.rexbegonias.com/BEGONIAS.htm
, look them over, let me know what you like, and we'll see if he has them.

Louisville, KY(Zone 6a)

thanks, I would be happy with whatever you decide to order for now. Is there a min. each of us need to get out of the 3 flats?

Saint Louis, MO

OK. I get the idea now that I have read today's Dmail from Lorraine.
I would be happy with any 3 of the following varieties:
Chayo
Curly Lion
Eyelaskes
Green Tiger
Iron Cross
Jenny
Red Heart
Silver Queen
Super Curl
Tornado
Can't wait! Lorraine, will you take checks or paypal from us?

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey ya'll. I ordered the 3 flats today so we can get them early next week. They are .42 cents each plus shipping. He said shipping will be about $60 to me.

He did not have available a lot of the ones we wanted, everyone else wanted them too. I told him we for sure wanted a red and to look at our list and send what he thinks will be close. He's got a really good reputation, so knows what he is doing. He also said he has some brand new ones, so will send a couple of those.

I will need paypal, cause I've already paid him. I am going to use Fed Ex, so will take till tomorrow to get a price on a box to you.

Southlake, TX(Zone 8a)

which ones are we getting?

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8a)

60 dollars a flat seems high to me but maybe someone else who has done liners may know if that price is ok. Anyone out there who has done this. Elaine

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

kThere are 128 plants in a flat for 42 cents each. That's a really good price. I got some from a co op last year and paid $2.00 each for them./ Rex Begonias are expensive so, I don't think you will find good ones for less than that. I did a co op with angel wing begonias and they were higher.

When I talked to him today, he was out of a lot of them, but I told him for sure we wanted a red one, and then told him some of the others we wanted and for him to pick out some for us similar. He also said he has some brand new kinds and will send some of those. So we will get 3 flats and as long as he's been in the business, we'll be pleased, I think.

Let me know by tomorrow if you want some. I need to get the flats filled, then figure it up. I'll need paypal cause he is shipping Monday or Tuesday and I've already paid for them. I will post a small order thread on the co op forum, so you can post there, but if you know how many, just d mail. Thanks.!!! Some of us are just needing to get them soon, cause we're going to the round up here and want to grow some out to take

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi, the begonias will be here tomorrow or the next day. Please let me know if you want any and how much. I didn't want to post on co op forum till I heard from ya'll. I just need to get the money back in my account. I know some of you sent it in a d mail, but would you mind posting it here so I can trans fer to co op.

If you will, just put a total of what you will want. I'm going to get in touch and get the names, but right now I need to know how many are gone before I tell anyone else. Thanks ya'll

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

If we are getting 3 different kind and we're ordering in multiples of 10, I'd like 10 of each for a total of 30 begonias.
Thanks,
Pam

Hereford, TX(Zone 7a)

I want the same as Pam.

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

I'd like 10 total, a mix of each variety.
Thanks MsC

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Okay, got the list. We'll have 3 trays with 2 diff. ones in each tray. Names are

Green Goddess
Curley Emma

Here is the link so see them
http://www.rexbegonias.com/BEGONIAS.htm

Please let me know the ones you want or if it doesn't matter. I am going to

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

Okay, great! Make that 5 of each for a total of 30. I love more variety.
Pam

Southlake, TX(Zone 8a)

I will take a variety of what you have for 20 each. THanks - remember I will ahve to wait to et mine - as I am out of town.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

If there are any of you Texas girls close enough to come and pick yours up or a group of you maybe, it would be wonderful. You would save your shipping and I would save my packing.!!

Maybe there is some of you that could let one person pick them up then split them up where you are.

Just an idea!!!

Please go to the Co op forum and post your order, that way it is all together.

Thank you all a lot. They will be here Thursday

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/857468/

Saint Louis, MO

I want the same as Pamela Q that is 5 0f each variety for a total of 30. So nice of the guy to put two variety per flat so we can get 6 instead of 3 kind.
BTW, sorry about the kitten.
Rosalie

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)
