very small rex begonia co op

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi, I would like to place an order for Rex Begonias from Booman floral. I did n't put this in the co op forum because I would like to keep it samll. These would not be delivered for at least 12 weeks, so it will be safe to be shipped and not burn to a crisp.

If anyone is interested, please let me know so I can get it together. They come in flats of 50 and won't have a "real" price until I have an idea how many we would like. So this will be our "interest" thread. You might look them over on this site and let me know which if any, you would like.

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

According to their website they are located in California. http://www.boomanfloral.com/bf_contactus.htm
They sure are a huge operation. Their website shows pictures of their greenhouses.
Maybe they have more than one place.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

They have several places, about 20 I think. One is in Dalllas, so that is who I am dealing with. The one in Calif. just sends you to a broker close to you.

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

20! I see where they can propagate a million cuttings a week. That is amazing. I would love to see that. I think you have a really neat place to order from. I hope it all comes together.
Pam

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8a)

I would be interested. I would love to see what their yellow clivia is like also. Elaine

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hopefullly, by tomorrow, I should have information. He was mailing somethings so I would know more about how they work. I will call h im right away. If I don't have it tomorrow, I'll call him. Should know something couple days. I think it will be great.

Today, they told me they had caladiums bulbs they were putting on sale to clear them out. NOrmally 66 cents,, 42 Cents now. If any of you are interested I'll get the names and how to get to the link

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

I might be interested. I'll wait to see selections and prices.

Ames, IA

I am also interested- in both the begonias and the caladium bulbs- can you provide more info on these? Thanks!
Allison

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Here's what he told me today about the caladiums He gave me some names but I can't remember them all. Here are at least a few. IRENE DANK, WHITE CHRISTMAS, RED FLASH , PINK BEAUTY. There were some others but didn't write them all down. Maybe you can at least check these out, give you an idea.

We'll know prices and all tomorrow on beg. Did you look over the begonias? http://www.boomanfloral.com/lp_products.htm

Ames, IA

Any update on prices for the begonias- they are VERY neat.
If we order caladiums, will those also take 12 or more weeks before they are delivered?
Thanks for the info!
Allison

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

No, the caladiums would come right now. It's time to plant here and they are clearing them out. If we have enough people who would lilke some, I could order those right away.

Also, am still working on Rex. The one wholesaler is sending info and I still am checking with several others so we can get the best price. I figured since it would be awhile before they would come anyway, we could afford the time to check around.

I'm also wanting to "vet" them and make sure they have good stuff.

I'll keep posting news and please keep letting me know if you are interested. Don't want a ton of people, but would be nice to have at least 15-20.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE CALADIUMS. i'M GOING TO PUT UP ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT THEM, SO IF YOU SEE ONE, IT'S JUST ME!!! LOL"

Louisville, KY(Zone 6a)

I am still interested in the rex. I am also interested in the caladiums.

Thanks

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Nancy, can you let me know about how many you might want. Not being held to anything, just getting a general idea.

If ya'll will just give me a ballpark, it will help

I am working hard on Rex, have about 6 diff. suppliers I'm talking too. If anyone knows of a place you have gotten good stuff from, let me know?

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

I am interested.

Southlake, TX(Zone 8a)

no interest in the caladiums, but still interested in begonias - thanks for all the work!

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8a)

Not interesed in Caladiums but interested in begonias. Thank you for doing all the checking.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm on the begonias!!!! Got a list of folks to talk to about them on Monday or Tuesday. Probably will be closed on Monday. I forgot it was a holiday. Snuck up on me. I'm still in February. Guess I better move on!! lol

We want a good price and good begonias, so I want to make sure of that. !!!! I'll get links to the different wholesalers for you on Tuesday so you can look them over. I hate to look at them, love them all and want them all yesterday!!

Saint Louis, MO

I would be interested in participating in your coop. Awaiting pricing info. In terms of working with the coop, does it mean you will be shipping to each of us and we reimburse you for shipping and plant cost?

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, if we can get a good enough price for it to pay you to do it, I'll order, they'll ship to me and then I will ship to you. I'm checking with a couple different places and one is really slow. He was sick last week so is behind he said

Granville, OH(Zone 6a)

If there's still room, I am also interested in participating in the coop.
Many thanks for organizing it.

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

Is Booman Floral one you are still checking on?

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

Hey Lorraine,
What's going on? If you would like, I'll help out any way I may be able to. I can call, email, shout.....hey!!!!help us!!!
Pam

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Pam, right now I'm trying to get prices!!! And I was interested in getting the plugs. If some want the full plants, we could get those too.

If you'd like to check on stuff like that it would be great. The plugs would be so much cheaper, and so far, when I've gotten plugs and repotted in 4 inches, they are 3 times their size in a week or so.

But I would love the help with that part of it. I've been trying to get in touch with the guys at Rexbegonia, but haven't gotten an email back and it says their phone is out of order, so that kind of scares me.

Booman has just been so long. He said he was getting together some different programs for us. Don't want programs, just begonias!!!

I've googled so much, I'm blind, but you may know some other place.s

Never knew it would be so hard to find a stinkin begonia!!!! Do you like Huechers with begonias?

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

I agree with saving money and getting plugs. I'll see what I may be able to do.
Pam

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

Here is a rather inexpensive place: http://www.violetbarn.com/begonias.htm

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi, I went to the link above, and they are pretty. Did you ask about plugs? Would you want plants instead of plugs, I just know the plugs are so much cheaper, and those little suckers grow really fast.

I just got an email from Rex Begonias and they need 12 week lead time, which is about when we wanted delivered. He does have some available now if you would like to try them, I don't mind ordering them for now. There are just 2, Mini Merry Christmas and Metal Flake. If you'd like to take a look at them, they can ship in two weeks.

I went into the site and didn't see those two, but he'll send a picture. You might want to look at these and see what you like

http://www.rexbegonias.com/index.html

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

Rex sounds good to me and they have a nice choice. I would want the smallest size.
http://www.henrysplantfarm.com/app/prod_detail.cfm?ID=25074
Here is a picture of the Metal Flake. I like it. This website also shows a picture of the Merry Christmas. It is pretty too.

Louisville, KY(Zone 6a)

I like them to.

Southlake, TX(Zone 8a)

I really wanted the escargot - but the newer links don't show them. Since the fuxchia co-op didn't go through, I am still game!!!

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Do you want me to try and get the two that they have.? Have any of you ever seen any of their plants. Let me know and we could do a small one with just those and another to come in 12 weeks or so.

JLMK I'll find out what the minimum is, probably not much. Will e mail now. Pamela is checking on some other sites and stuff to get prices and things.

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

I would like the two they have now.
As for the other places I contacted, no one has returned emails or calls yet. We can continue to wait or just go ahead with rexbegonias since he called back.

Pam

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

This is a link that shows the escargot.
http://www.logees.com/prodinfo.asp?number=B3224-2
Notice it says 'propagation prohibited - patent applied for'
So you may have to buy it someplace like this for now. I'm not sure.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I would vote for plugs as well and also put me down as really wanting Escargot. Personally I'd rather wait for the larger selection than go for just the 2 they have available now. My two cents!
