This is supposed to be Nellie Moser but it doesn't look like the one I used to have. BEV

Doesn't look like Nellie Moser but may be Asao which is a great favorite. You might want to ask on the clematis forum. Very pretty though. It's such a surprise to me that clematis grow in the dark. Rooguchi is planted at the border of a sunny/shade place and grew itself right back into the shade. It doesn't climb but makes a nice ground cover. In that photo it is scrambling over a small hydrangea.

My girlfrien gave me this when she moved to Maryland about 4 weeks ago. May have been a tag mix up. There are a lot of those you know. I will try to look it up. Thanks. BEV

That clematis is Villa De Lyon introduced in 1899. Doss what do you think? BEV

Scented geranium (species Pelargonium) make a great groundcover in the shade, in zones 9-11.

A public park in Paris, does it count as a shady garden?

Ville de Lyon is pretty pink.

Wow you have a lot of ground to landscape lussah. Looks as if you are doing well. I enjoyed the use of mondo grass (if that's what it is) as edging.

Dale I loved the combination of the geranium with the silver plant (why oh why can't I remember it - Dusty Miller?) And the park certainly does count. Beautiful. I love the ferns on the trees too. Your ferns look as if they are all tropical beauties and the shade garden is so inviting with the pavers - whatever is growing between them is doing a very good job!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Can we find a pics of Asao? BEV

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Asao - I'm not sure it's just what came first to mind. I'd surely check it out on the clematis forum where there are people with a lot of clematis.

Dame's rocket can also be extremely invasive, and a noxious weed. I'll take Phlox divaricata anyday.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Wow Dale. Love the root system on that tree. What a speciman that must be.

I like irises in the sun and that's where all the blooms gone now. My shade is mostly green at the moment except this. The last bloom of shooting star.

Hi, All !!!!!
Another forum I need to keep my eye on.
My shade garden is a work in progress right now.
I planted columbine(ruby port), ajuga(choco chip and p torch), hellebores, hydrangea, hardy fall blooming cyclamen, thyme, bruces white phlox.
Pic of my hosta on side of shed, can see them from the front yard

Very rich edgy green of the hosta is really nice. Simple well defined shapes en mass work so well. And that Columbine is hot!

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Lovely mass planting of hostas. Looks so cool and serene.

Saruma henryi is an easy shade perennial which has interesting fuzzy textured leaves even when it's not in flower. The flowers are just beginning - they're not overwhelming: the little yellow splotch in the center of every leaf. But I like it for it's foliage texture in woodland shade.

Viburnum 'Onandaga' isn't supposed to like our humid hot summers, but has done fine for me.
Nice red-tinged foliage with lacecap flowers.
(You can't tell that the foliage is reddish in these pictures ...
hmm, maybe the photographry isn't the best.)
You'll need to take my word for it, I guess.

And finally a really pretty thalictrum.

There's only 3 shady spots in my yard and that's where I sit in the middle of August to stay a little cool.
