Ouch - my first real gardening accident

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

DON - LOVE YOUR PROSE.

Gotta come here at least to get a laugh.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Great poem, Don!!

I am laughing at the antics of us gardeners. Fortunately, nothing has happened to wither Anna or myself that even comes close to what you guys have done! Sorry to be laughing while you must still be in pain Dawn, but the stories are so funny.

I can see us doing a 'Survivor' series!!

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

I vote for an 'island' with deer and rabbits that are toothless (!!), perfect well- balanced fragrant crumbly soil...flowers that self-deadhead - weeds that commit suicide every 2 days. Anything else on the 'survivor' island wish list?

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

everything automatically re-seeds itself.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

And no weeds!!

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

No weeds is better than suicidal weeds!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

And no black flies had better DARE land on our island.

(Zone 4a)

Hahaha thanks for the Poem Don! It certainly gave me a chuckle......

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

How are you feeling today, Dawn?

I agree with the deserted island like Gilliagans. So we get ship wrecked. I wonder who would have what stashed for seed, bulbs, tubers etc.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

no WHITE FLIES, either!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Rosie, that story was too funny. Good thing you didn't fall on that!
Don, as always a great poem.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Missingrosie...I'm sorry I laughed but the no panties, yellow jackets and neighbors had me roaring with laughter!!
Dawn, I hope your feeling better.....laughter IS the best medicine!!

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Unless you have broken ribs Celeste. Ouch!

Great poem Don.

No chiggers either

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

ROFL @ Missingrosie's story.

Quoting:
---all I could think about was that I DIDN'T HAVE ON ANY UNDERPANTS! Neighbors cover thine eyes! Yellow Jackets careful where you plant those stingers!

Isn't it amazing how many thoughts can run through your head in a matter of seconds?

Update - No cast is needed and no surgery either! yay! I just have to wait it out and let it heal on its own. I go back for another xray in 3 weeks just to be sure it is healing properly.

That is wonderful news Dawn! Take it easy and don't overdo!! Eleanor

Be careful Dawn, make sure to heal well! When I broke my leg, I walked on it for 2 days before going to the doc (didn't hurt enough to be broken). Doc told me I was lucky the bones didn't displace with walking on it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Great news, Dawn.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I am so happy for the news, Dawn. Thank you for the update. Keep us posted, OK?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

That's great Dawn!

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Dawn - ask the doc about exercises. Even if not broke - sometimes residual pain from the injury and weakness from not using while healing can be limited by a good routine of exercise. Glad nothing cracked!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Dawn I would totally think like you if I had broken something... how am I going to garden.... well, I am glad you did not break anything...

(Zone 4a)

missingrosie - you are absolutely right - he did give me some excercises to keep my arm moving....I am thankful he did too cause I have already noticed a difference...I can actually touch my nose now - slowly but I can do it.

thanks everyone for your well wishes....It sucks to have a break but it really isn't that bad - I have still been pretty independent except for a few minor things - putting on a bra is a b*tch but dh has been more that willing to help LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'll not comment...

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

I'm so glad for you that you don't have a cast or have to have surgery. Just don't over due it.

I especially love this thread cause yall made me feel like there is nothing at all wrong with me and all my outdoor life experiences...rofl.

LOL! Whatever you may have experienced, that just makes you one of us! Welcome to the 'family' of NE Gardeners.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Dawn: If touching your nose was/is hard then maybe you can practice 'walking' up the wall. You face the wall - place your hand against the wall as a start off point - (maybe start at shoulder height or lower is ok if you can't start that high) and then pull your hand back a tad and use your fingers to 'walk' up the wall. Don't push into pain. Just go as high as you can comfortably go and then go higher as the days/weeks progress. This is a good balance exercise too - just try to do it with one leg off the floor.... you'd be surprised how difficult it can be trying to stand on one leg. The fingers on the wall sort of provide a stability /balance effect.

thanks Candyce.

Still catching up on old threads.

missingrosie, that is about the funniest story I have read in a long time. Thanks for the laugh. . . . and I am sooooo glad you were not injured. ^_^

This was not in my garden, but amusing nun the less. One night I awoke to go to the little room...well upon standing...there was no left foot so I immediately fell (my foot was asleep - guess it didn't need to go) anyway I fell straight into the door. The next morning when my husband got home from his night shift in the USAF (this was many years ago)...he asked what in the world had happened to me ....I had one heck of a shiner and torn ligaments in my ankle. I always have drreaded those middle of the night wake up calls, but now I check to be sure I have 2 feet before bearing weight, even 30 some years later!
