Favorite Fern Picture (Part 2)
Noreaster, Yup one of the draw backs of a gardner... not enough room!
Postmandug, great pics of some great ferns!
I would love to have a maidenhair fern but alas.... not enough room!
Must have been a wonderful trip with all of that natural beauty around.
I empathize Noreaster. I'm out of room too.
Yes it was very beautiful! We hoped to catch all the native rhododendrons in bloom but missed them by a few days. We had been to Munchkin Gardens ( http://www.munchkinnursery.com/) the previous weeked in Southern Indiana and took a tour and bought some plants too. Gene was very delightful in showing us all the plants he had. Thank goodness we went because we saw literally millions of the very plants he had shown us such as Trillium, Solomon Seal, Lady Slippers, Foam Flowers, Heuchera, Jack In The Pulpit and ferns growing wild there. It was like being in OZ now that we knew what we were looking at! I had probably seen these plants all my life and just thought they were "weeds". We went last fall too but after the drought we had this past summer the plants just weren't as noticeable. Can't wait to go back!
Doug
Thanks for the link to Munchkin land. What a lovely place. No wonder you want to go back!
They need a copy of your photo on their website Doug! Yes I did go through their photos. What a great lot of hardscaping making everything look beautiful. They didn't have a photo of that great path though.
Oh man...I wish I could go IN that photo and walk that path....so peaceful.
Unfortunately as a result of that trip my loving bride decides she wants ME to do that same thing with our hillside!!! I'll probably start on it this fall.... Yes Dear....
Doug
Marry me? lol
Aw shucks she knows I really enjoy doing that sort of thing anyway!!! I'm working on ANOTHER stone retaining wall this week. went up on the hill last evening and picked up about 800 lbs of sandstone.
Doug
I think I'll keep the one I've got!!! LOL I don't care what it looks like in the pic, I AM NOT a cradle robber! She's only 9 months behind me, I just don't use Mr. Clairol !!!
Doug, you have a beautiful wife! Keep on the good work! ; )
You're not so bad yourself!
Yeah, nice couple!
Woot woooo.... Nice looking couple.
Someday I'll get a good photo of this fern. Not my favorite photo, but a favorite fern for sure.
Arachniodes simplicior 'Variegata' (East Indian Holly Fern, I believe).
Deb
By the way, I got a Ghost Fern from the "nearly dead" sale rack at Lowe's today. Anyone know if they can take any sun at all? Tag says "no direct sun", which, in out climate, usually means no sun at all. Thanks,
Deb
Deb, my Ghost Ferns don't get any direct sun and they seem to like it like that. I'd think-especially if they are already Congrats, though on finding a great fern at a super price. I love this one:-)
Very pretty Holly Fern!
DebinSC--Now granted I am a lot more north than you, but I had my 'Ghost' in deep shade and almost killed them. I put them in a spot that gets sun in morning and dappled shade, but bright light, most of the rest of the day and they do great.

Thanks for the Ghost Fen info folks.
Doug, that's a lovely photo!

postman- We leave the 25th & come home on the 29th. It's a short break but that's all the time we have to get away this summer. I'm not complaining, we have a major trip planned for November, that's were all our vacation time is alloted for this year.
Here's a picture of our little camper, we just love it. it's nimble and real quick to set up, keeps us high and dry, better on gas mileage than one of those big boxes and it's a lot bigger than our old tent....
Nice Shady! Does it come with air conditioner? Cost?
Doug
Postman- Yes, ours has A/C, furnace, refrigerator, stove & microwave! We don't even have A/C at home, lol! They have really tiny models to one that is large than ours. you can even get one with a bathroom if you wanted. I have no idea how much they run for these days.....Here's a link to the manufacture: http://www.aliner.com/design/
