CLOSED: Is this beetle a friend or foe?

I found this in the garden under a steppingstone. I'm hoping it's not a species that feeds on plants.

I think it's one of the many ground beetles (family Carabidae), maybe genus Platynus. Most ground beetles eat other insects, even as larvae.
