Got my ducklings yesterday. What a bunch of love bugs! Trying to type one handed here because they are culd against my arm and asleep! When we put them into their cage they cry and cry! We took them outside for a short bit today. They loved the grass and followed us all over. So funny to see these tiny little things racing after you! We got 2 of the Australian spotted. One silver and one blue. They are 3 days old today. I'll post pictures later.
Got my ducklings!
look forward to it!
They may be crying if they're cold. They would cuddle to you for warmth.
Congratulations on your new babies!
MollyD
Oh no, now I'm worried they are cold! I have a 100 watt red flood light over them, pretty low in the cage so that the intensity is nice and warm. They follow back and forth when you walk by them and stand in the corner crying. I have them in a large wire bird cage to start off with. These guys are bantom ducks, so they are pretty small.
100 watts should be plenty. Mine have 85 watts. Try covering the back and sides of the cage. A lot of birds feel insecure when they're in a cage that is open on all sides.

here are the pics from our short outing this morning. I have these two little buggers sitting on my lap because they were peeping so loud that my daughter got up and said she couldnt sleep because of it! I'm thinking I need to drag out my co-sleeper from when my kids were babies!
oh, i coudl never get enough pictures of baby ducks!!!
hope we have some soon too!
congrats,
tf
Aren't they beautiful!
MollyD
They are so cute ! I il get some more soon as I get organized .
congrats....they are adorable!
Love the picture of the cat's butt! Er- duckling!
Sorry- I'm just teasing you, Janastacio! They are
adorable! You're going to make a good duck mama.
My babies are 10 days old. I cant believe how much they have grown in only a week! I put them in the tub for the first time yesterday! What a hoot. They had such a great time scooting under water and racing all over the tub! I let them play for about 15 minutes and then dried them well, and put them under the heating lamp. They had another tub today. These guys are so much fun!
Awww, you are having lots of fun! Yea! I bet
they are a blast to watch in the water! Do you have
any new pics? I wanna see them in the tub!
metoo!
TF- Did you know that there is a Chicken Fairy??
Awwww ... nothing better than ducklings! Have fun!
Seems the Chicken Fairy only visits children in
Africa. You put your tooth under a big basket
behind your house, and when you wake up- there's
a chicken under there! Now, that's teaching little ones
some responsibility! None of this giving money
nonsense. haha Tell your DH to put his under a
basket- maybe he will get another CP.
Shhhh--I think TF IS the Chicken Fairy.......
ROFLMAO!!!
yeah, like i'm gonn agive away all my chicks, you wish!
DH handed me his toothe the other night, i didn't give him anything for it. maybe if i get the frizzles from Sarah, i could say one is his, but they are really for the kids.
poor Peter is almost seven and hasn't lost a atooth yet. he has been on the small side since he broke his leg, and so naturally behind in everything. already had someone tell him that the tooth fariy and Santa is your mother. i told him in that particular boys case it was true, becasue she was always giving them too much, adding to what Santa and the tooth fairy give. i dont' know any fairy that carries 5 dollar bills around in their pockets LOL. should have said that boy was so nuaghty his mother replaced th caol from Santa with those peresents [they lived with us during this last Chirstmas!]
maybe he will loose a tooth before Ahnold or Rocky the Rhode Island Red get here... he likes money a lot, but that would be TOO cool. i bet he oculd instigate his brother to hit him, he's good at that!
Sam jus tread this and want sto know if there is any lizard fairies??? he lost his pet named Viper a couple of week sago...
oops no peter asked if we can find a baby fairy. yep, HUMAN kids... i sent them to clean their room, they may end up the corner for that suggestion. last time they asked for a sibling they got one!
maybe DH needs another loose tooth..
Sorry about the lizard. I love my scaly friends too. Right now I have a baby water dragon named Edmund, and he's awesome!
i made them turn their frog loose. that little setup they have is for keeping crawling insects in, we don't have a good set up for repoitles, and they just die...
Lizards are hard. Snakes are easier...just don't let them get a boa or python...they are naturalizing.
oh, Sam wants and Anaconda, and i don't mean DUCK!
Heavens no! No baby fairy and no anaconda Sam!
i say when they gro wup and move out, they can do whatever they please, as long as they have the money to take care of it, and don't expect me to come and visit!
I tell you what's so expensive with the lizards is the lighting. UVs and UBVs, the right temp and humidity. It is challenging at first.
We have wild lizards here. They are blue-tailed skinks. DH wouldn't have anything like that in the house as he doesn't like snakes or lizards of any kind. I have never had that problem, but to keep peace, I just watch the wild ones running arould on a good sunny day.
GG
We have so many lizards, I lose count. My
favorite is horned lizards, or as we called them
growing up- horny toads. They are endangered,
but we used to catch them all day long when we
were kids. The fire ants kill their food, army ants.
(or-harvester ants)
as long as we don't poison the harvester ants, but tolerate them, we have horny toads around... love em!
but Viuper was the first skink i had ever seen!
I didn't know we had lizards until I saw one on our deck about 3 years after we moved here. I haven't seen any other kinds here. There may not be any other kinds. I knew what it was because its tail is electric blue when they are babies. It fades a little when they become adult.
GG
I love lizards. As a kid I used to catch them all the time, keep 'e, for a bit, and then set them free.
Hmmm, how did this go from ducklings to lizards!!!!! :o)
It was TF's fault!!! : )
