Centennial Girl Holly

Hatboro, PA

Has anyone grown this? Thinking of trying to find this holly. It is a Ilex x meserveae . One website for a wholesaler says. "10-15 ft. (Zone 5) Beautiful pyramidal form growing to 5 ft wide. Deep green foliage and shiny red berries. Introduced 1997". Does it really only get to be 5 ft wide? Does it grow fast or slow? Any pest or disease problems? How much sun does it need?

I planted two of these two years ago because I wanted to put them on either side of a tall window. One of them got a fungus or something and died last year -- the other one seems to be doing fine.

The garden center where I bought the dead one gave me credit on a replacement, but it was hard to find another Centennial Girl. Eventually, I did find one, but it's significantly smaller than the surviving one. I'm told it will catch up in a couple of years.

The survivor seems to put on about 6 inches a year. at this point, it's about 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide, but I'm going to have to prune about 6 inches off all around because it's getting leggy.

It puts out a really heavy crop of bright red berries -- very attractive. Except for the dead one, I'm pretty happy with them.

Do you have it in sun or shade? Does it get any winter sun or wind? When I re-landscaped to add a conifer garden my hollies had to go. They were extremely large. I want badly to plant one or two somewhere.
