Hi...have any of you folks had a problem with seed requests...I have sent SASE to two Dave Garden people, whose names shall remain quiet, you know who you are..... who have promised to send me seeds. That was in March and April. I have yet to receive the seeds..I have sent both of these individuals emails and have yet to receive a answer.....How do you handle something like this??? Don't get me wrong...I am not gonna go broke for 5 or 6 stamps, but to me if you say your gonna send something, then send it...just curious...

DEAD BEAT SEED TRADERS

and she has not don that and on the d mails that i have send she react either
i am very angry about that i want to help people with seeds and this is wat you get
i sent stamps and envolopes to a few one back in march and april too and nothing as of yet.
i have one now that hasnt come back yet either. 3.00 in stamps. not fair or right but its the chances you take.
too many out there that are great traders. so that makes up for it
I don't think it was me, but if it is, please let me know.
Thanks,
Donna
One other thing that may be a problem... postage went up.
Sometimes envies just get lost in the mail, or they take awfully long! One of my envies took 2 entire months to get from Holland to it's destination in Texas! Should be 6-7 days.....
I loose stuff in the mail all the time trying to send to you guys across the pond.
I don't get involved with big swaps anymore as it took so much time i just send stuff to friends who i think might like something. Sometimes they don't even know its coming! lol
I don't keep track of SASBE envelopes people are supposed to be sending because many people say they are and never do. I do, however respond to all emails.
I keep track of all the SASBE's because if someone is asking for a particular seed, I don't want to send the seed to someone else. See what I mean? I wouldn't want to give away seeds to someone that I had already promised to someone else. And if I don't get the SASBE, I email the person asking if they still want the seeds... usually they do and I get the SASBE. Maybe it's a lot of trouble for me to go through to give seeds away, but I just don't want to disappoint people.

I definitely make use of the feedback system and try to leave feedback for everyone that I've traded with. I've only had one bad trade with many many many wonderful trades by comparison. I hadn't thought to leave feedback for an SASE trade, but now that I see this thread I will do that, too.
i have run into a few that i still havent gotten. i put everything on trade tracker, that way i KNOW if i have gotten it back. very frustrating when there not sent in proper time. >:-{
I reserve limited quantity seeds for trades or gifts, I only offer SASBE on seeds I have an overbundance of rather than toss them out. Annuals are more prolific seeds producers so I don't usually have an excessive amount as I don't have a lot of time for annuals
May be something happened to that person you sent SASE. I sent a plant to a person and NEVER heard back from her. Some other people left her negative feedback too. I wondered if she got sick or something.
LiliMerci and Everybody,
That is very possible. But believe me, I've heard excuse after excuse when it comes to trades. Some I know are waiting for this or that to come up... they give me the heads up on it... so it's not a big deal. But I've heard such stories such as "some kids smashed the mail boxes". Okay, and that delayed it for 3 months. Some are really absurd and you know you're being lied to. I hate it, but I haven't been completely nixed on a trade yet... I've remained consistent and tried to be understanding. I mean, perhaps some folks don't want to tell the truth about why they couldn't get their trade out to you. I think that folks who agree to a trade with you really do it with good intentions. But things happen. I've found if you just try to give the benefit of a doubt and be consistent... give plenty of time... they will eventually come through. I mean, I know, there have been times I've wanted to reach through the wire of my computer and slap someone silly, but really, if you want to get your trade.... be nice and give plenty of time.
That's just the way I handle things.
Donna
I'm with bubba.... start listing what you were wanting. I have a selection to get rid of.... and ya'll are welcome to it!
Donna
Well, I'm a believer of doing what you say you're going to do. I've had a few people that said they want to trade, then they said they were sick and then yaddy yaddy yad, so I just don't send my trade. And sometime I send the trade and I'm still waiting. I don't mind so much the SASE, but when a TRADE is involved and I'm waiting on your plants/seeds, I want it.
I do hate it when you give people leeway and they take advantage of you.
Then there are new traders out there who doesn't know what they are doing. I try to remember that and be patient.
I feel really blessed I have not had any bad experiences with trades. I think for every 1 bad trader there are 100 good ones. it doesn't make it ok but it makes you appreciate that most people still honor their promises.
May I say .. sometimes the excuses are very real! I know how it is when you trade you expect the package to be there within a reasonable time. My DH just had back surgery and within 5 weeks had hip replacement surgery, so I know some excuses are real..lol
There will always be the "one" that does it his or her way, and could care less about others. It's a shame we don't have esp... it would save us a lot of money and other problems that seem to follow a bad deal.
Things get crazy in spring. I wish I was as organized as you guys are with trade tracker.
On the other hand, I got SASBEs with out names, so sometimes it's not possible to track some trades.
I think, people who really want those seeds would send SASBEs and e-mails. So I would not
get too upset.
I do know that at times things get delayed for quite unexpected reasons. That's not a problem for me.
Gardening is my past time, activity that give me piece of mind and a way to get away from some thoughts
I need to get a way, to recharge see life go on around me and sometimes because of me :)
I quite understand it maybe the same for others when your family issues just knock you out for a while and
this for a while can be along time for those outside.
Some people are very private by nature and simply can't talk about things. Gardening is healing activity
for both body and sole. I try to look at it mainly from this point of view.

I had one trader this year that said she was sending seeds twice and still never got them and she knew I was suppose to start them early what upset me was she said she ordered the seeds special for me? She got her end and that was around Jan. I still haven't received mine, live and learn, but I have had so many nice traders that it does make up for it :) I just put that name on my list of people NOT to trade anymore and to warn other people about her trading when I'm talking to them.
Well just so ya all know, I did try all of those suggestions you folks have said to do......The seed request was on individual request...in other words, no one else was requesting the seed, and there were many emails sent to the persons who had the seed to send me. I also in turn was well aware of the postage increase, and sent additional stamps. When I send a SASE I always put all of the necessary information with it so the person sending me the seed will know who its going to, and just exactely what seed I am requesting.
By the way, the seed requested was Moon Flower that climbs....
Thank you all for your input....
Deann
Deann,
I too am waiting on some moonflower seeds on a large plant and seeds trade and if there are enough, I will be glad to share. I'll Dmail you when I get mine. I hope it's not the same person.... :)
For those who have had misfortunes in trading, please don't let it taint your opinion of it. Most folks here are great at trading.
Donna
My first seed trade here was a one way only:lol: I sent some Celosia Apricot Brandy and was promised a fuschia something or other. Never happened and this was a fairly active member. The rest of the trades I've been involved in have gone well. If anything I'm the procrastinator:lol: Not just for mailing stuff, it's a terrible habit of mine that I have to struggle with.
I don't blow anyone off, but I just let things go sometimes. I will be sending another member some rather large bulbs that are now completely enveloped by the rest of the garden plants sometime this fall because I waited to long to dig them up. He will get them as a gift (no postage!) since it's my fault for waiting. I do keep good records and will email to fess up to my tardiness, no excuses other than procrastinating;)
I've had 2 instances of computer problems. Once it was stolen in a break in and the other was a kaput hard drive. Had to wait to get the money for a replacement.
Sorry that your SASE hasn't been returned yet!

One thing. If you send an envelope without out your Dg name and what you want that can be a problem. If you E-mail them that should work out.
Second thing is some times something does happen to someone. I know one trader who got the flu and things turned ugly. He disappeared from dave's for a while. Not his fault what happened.
Deann do you need some moon flower seeds. I would be happy to send you some.
I have had a couple of people not send things, but I just chalk it up.
One was someone wanted me to root my Morning Glory for them, and I did. I sent 2 plants. They were suppose to send me some MG seeds. I even sent a reminder about it, and they said when they weren't so busy, they would get the seeds to me. That's been since last July, and I haven't seen anything yet.
Oh well. : (

I too have participated in a few swaps that turned out to be 'one way' swaps :o( but then I'm not trading any expsensive or rare seeds/plants so I figure Its not a huge loss, just a disappointment. One that went sour was a thread someone was offering free seeds for postage. I sent my envie with return postage and extra postage for 'payment' and many others did too. Shortly afterwards we were told that the member became sick. Then several months later, that same member posted another thread with the same offer. I still havent received my seeds yet, and they were offering the seeds again? I noticed that a bunch of DGer's from the first thread posted on the second thread that they havent received their seeds from a few months earlier and it looks like there werent many 'takers' on the second offer now :)
I think leaving feedback is important, but leaving negative feedback should only be reserved for instances when you KNOW FOR SURE that the person is a fraud, not because they got sick, or life got in the way.
I too get really busy, and am a procastinator, so usually I dont do trades, unless I am sending first :o) I would rather be the person who got cheated, than the one who cheated someone cause I forgot! LOL!
oh and speaking of trades... I am desparately looking for silver falls seeds or starts! :oD
AnjL
I have only participated in about twenty trades. I have also sent stuff to people who really wanted it for nothing at all. I have had two people not send me the promised items, but the way I look at it is we have no idea what is going on in their lives and I garden because it truly makes me happy and I do not want it to spoil my fun. We live with too many irriations small and large every day. Gardening is my escape from it all! I will still send what I can and not think about the return. Believe me, I have lost alot more money with plants from nurseries that just did not make it. Just part of gardening life...
I've sent out a lot of seeds for free. The thing people sending SASE's should keep in mind is that they need to put what they want on the envie! I can't tell you how many SASE's I've gotten with NO CLUE as to what they wanted. Often there is no DG name, and to be honest I don't really have the time to try to track down people and find out what they wanted when I'm getting around a hundred envies in the mail.
Another suggestion is to Dmail a gentle reminder rather than just give up on the person. Maybe they never got your SASE or they did send the seeds and it didn't get through the mail. It's happened to me a couple times and I was glad to send replacement seeds.
I'm sure there's a few deadbeats out there but it's probably a small percentage of traders.
LeePerk,
Thank you for your generous offer, but at this point in time, I think its too late now. By the time those seeds germinate and start to flower, I am sure living in Northern Michigan, the frost will hit them. But I just want you to know I do appreciate your offer....
Hey folks, please don't get me wrong here.........I am not gonna go broke because I sent out $2.00 to $3.00 bucks in stamps.....its just the principal of it. Really did not mean to open up a can of worms here.....and for the record, this is the first time it has happened to me. I have had success with alot of trades of live plants, bulbs and seeds.....
Deann
deann, you can cut the moon vine and put it in water, it should grow. then you can still collect the seeds after the frost
also soaking the seeds in peroxide helps them germinate quicker
Deann, don't worry about opening up a can of worms. Alot of us have had this happen, and we know you aren't trying to be mean, or anything. You are just voicing what some others are thinking. No biggie. : )
I think 75% is that people just get busy and forget, and some of us are alittle older and that 'forgetting thing' comes with the territory. lol
I try to remind people once, but after that I just chalk it up, and move on. : ) Have a wonderful day, today.
~Lucy
There's by far more people who come through, that's for sure.
I have quite a number of plants that grew from seeds or starts and
I remember them by a DG name :) The reason this site is such a great
place are people. They draws the kindred spirits here and make
this a community. And like any family......
I am trying to offer free seeds each season being as disorganized
as I am I always feel ashamed that I don't have classy packets like
some that I got but I still do it in the true spirit of DG.
It's hurts when things go wrong and it's good to air this out and move on
into the virtual or real (!!!) garden. Summer is finally here and my nail brushes
are on every sink :) Time to get dirty.
LOL Had to laugh at the "nail brushes on every sink" me too! lol
Deann the offer still stands. I soaked mine for 24 hrs planted and they were up in 24 hrs. You could always save the seed until next year. They bloom pretty quickly.
Don't worry about the can of worms we all need a few in our gardens anyway!!! I do find that the majority of people on DG are wonderful, loving and caring. Probably ALL are some are just a bit more organized than others.
Have wonderful afternoon!!
Don't worry about the can of worms we all need a few in our gardens anyway!!!
'That is too funny!' Thanks for the laugh.
