It's even too hot for the hummers!

It's 92 in the "cool" of the patio. Some of the hummers have moved in to keep cool. Anyone else feeling cooked? Everything in my garden is praying for the sun to go down.

Great shot frogsrus! Yep, we’ve been frying up here too, and many of my plants end up looking droopy and sad by late afternoon. Today is a little cooler than the last couple of days though. Our waterfall “steps” have been a really popular drinking and bathing spot for the hummers and other birds.

It's absolutely horrible, horrible, horrible. I watered the property for 2 days in preparation for this and I'm so very glad that I did. I think I'll be out watering pots for hours tomorrrow a.m. Isn't that supposed to be the hottest day? After we were lied to that Friday would be the hottest day and I thought, "well, this isn't so bad" ? Moving to Oregon wouldn't even help 'cause it was 100 at Gold Beach a couple of days ago.

Yep I am out watering in the middle of the night…too hot to sleep, so what the heck, right? We have a window ac unit downstairs, but last night at 8 pm it was 91 degrees in our bedroom…ugh!

They are cute little creatures, if a bit bad tempered. They are not even grumbling at one another as they usually do. Tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter-oh joy. I guess the rocks that I wanted to move will wait another week.

Here is one at the cool food bar. I switched the food for some that I had in the fridge (I make up large batches because I have lots of feeders) and they seem to like the cool nectar.

I find the hummers taking baths in my fountain sometimes when it's hot out. Unfortunately I never have my camera handy when I see them, and the fountain is right by the front door so there's no way to go in and get it without scaring them away!

It was definitely cooler here today, normally I think 95 is really hot, but after the last 2 days it was kind of a pleasant break, and I can already tell it's cooling down more quickly tonight than it has the last couple nights. I decided since it was still pretty hot out it would be a good day to clean out my pond rather than working in the hotter areas of the garden. So now tomorrow I get to go shopping for some new water plants!

Ha! That's because 'they' said the center of the high pressure was settling down our way by tomorrow, I think you're through the worst of it. Maybe it's the only good thing about getting older..... every summer we hate the heat and swear we have to leave..if we put it off long enough, maybe our old bones will like the heat....naaah.

Mr Oriole was yelling at me yesterday to get the feeders filled - I was lax in my duties! Had my hair chopped off to within an inch of my life - hot weather and my hairdresser is going to Paris for three weeks!

Talked with my sis in Oregon today, Sherry - her a/c went out yesterday. They had been to a potluck and came home to 90 degrees in the house. She said even the cats were miserable. Say hi to her if you have a mo - she just joined DG: Sally_OR

We stayed in all day, but tomorrow I'll have to get up and water early.

Yep, I'll be out watering at the crack of dawn also. Then staying in and reading...good excuse to do nothing.

There was a lizard convention going on in my yard yesterday. They were doing their aerobic circuit for hours ! Given the heat, my cat's weren't the least bit interested.

Even the bluebellies were not in their usual places in the heat of the day yesterday. They have been hunkered down in the mulch around the tomatoes and squash in the heat of the day. I guess the damp air rising from the ground is their lizard version of a sauna. The tomatoes are loving the heat wave. My watering and debugging are done for the day. The dishwasher decided to breathe its last yesterday so I guess it is past time to go look at new appliances. Arghhh.

Lizard convention, lol, I love it! : ) I saw 2 hummers bathing in my daylilies wet leaves...it was really cute! I'm wandering what my water bill will be this month...

I'm soo happy..supposed to be back down to 79 degrees here tomorrow. I have a lot of potting to do and I've been 'veg'ing for the last 4 days trying to decide if I'd live or not. Wonder of wonders 'they' say we may even get something in the way of rain on Thursday....ha!...they can't fool me. It may, however, be cool enough to hurry and get some things into the ground before it gets hot again.

Well, it's sure cool enough this morning and does feel like rain. I don't believe it, though.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

I wish! I don't think it's going to rain though....but I am enjoying a break from that heat for sure!
