Hey everybody,
Just thought this might be fun to do. What are your favorite and least favorite commercials? They can be from whenever, it doesn't have to be something that's currently on TV now.
I don't watch all that much TV but there are still some commercials that get me! One of my favs has to be the freecreditreport.com one where he's "dressed up like a pirate in this restaurant". Every time I see or hear that commercial I sing the song for days and days. Yes, I know every word too. LOL!
Least fav has got to be the new amp commercial. The "walk of shame". If you've seen it you know it. I think I just stared at the TV in disbelief when I saw it the first time.
My favorite older commercial is the one that every now and then they rerun at Christmastime. I think it's for the Lotto, I'm not even sure. All I remember is a dog that's wrapped up as a Christmas gift...but he's not wrapped in the usual manner. Someone has taken little bits of paper and taped them to him so it's a perfectly shaped dog, wagging tail and all...I think he also had a ball in his mouth. I wish I had a pic of it!
So, let's hear everyone else's....
Favorite and Least Favorite Commercials
I HATE the Mucinex commercials! I'd rather see the Pepto Bismol than hear about mucous. At least Pepto is making fun of itself. I also hated a short lived one several yrs ago with closeups oftalking bellybuttons. Grossed me out for some reason. Also hate the Jello wiggle song and dance
Loved a campaign against colon cancer where these guys in lab coats jump out of a car, a la real life cop shows, and arrest a (guy in a a ) polyp (suit). I perk up at Geico commercials- liked a lot of them. Jimmy Dean man in the sun costume, were running in the AM on Fox last year- cute!
Seems like I remember the commercials better than what I was actually watching. I guess they did their job then.
I liked those Jimmy Dean spots, too. And I love the Geico ads, too. That lotto commercial -- I know the one. It is a good one! I wish I could remember what exactly it was for so I could look for it on YouTube!
How about the cheese that runs during Christmas season? "I didn't leave him cookies. I left him cheese."
Howie and I like that cereal commercial where the bloodhound brings breakfast up to his master on a tray. You think the dog wants to go for a walk with the guy. At the end, the guy's out taking his morning walk, and the dog is stretched out in the bed. That is SO our dogs. LOL
There's another one for Armstrong flooring, showing a couple who smell the food in the fridge to see if it's good, then fall in a dead faint on the floor. The kitchen floor is littered with food containers. It's so funny! They play it on HGTV a lot.
Fave commercial was the "I smell bacon!!!" dog. "What's in the bag? I can't read!"
Least fave...Any of them about E.D., herpes or...well, you get the idea. I DON'T CARE!!!
UUUUGGGGHHHH! the ED commercials- do they think its revenge for allowing any 'feminine ' commercials? I must be a prude. PLEEEEEASE don't be talking about 'special moments' . Although I do have a laugh about the guy who has the four hour or longer problem and has to go somewhere for help....
That's where I was going with that. Puh-Lease!!! I don't CARE if it "...makes a man larger." And I don't want a demonstration of either your products (male) or mine (feminine).
HA HA HA- if you want your kids to know about Life, just send em to public school
But we digress
I tired of all medication commercials- pseudo educational- I'm trying to think of another Liked commercial...Sonic!!!!! love that couple in the car.
I think we all must like and dislike the same ones...so either we are all prudes or those ED commercials make everyone want to know less.
While we are on the subject of male medication commercials that are of questionable taste...there's one I haven't seen in a while for some kind of male urinary problem. It shows a group of (I think it's) 4 guys...golfing...boating...riding bikes (I think they rode bikes). Anyway, all the guys are a bit too friendly with each other. It's very odd. When I first saw the commercial I turned to DH and asked him if there was something I didn't know or if I misunderstood the commercial. He laughed and laughed...said he thought the same thing I did and that it was just a bad ad. Hmmm. Whatever. I've NEVER seen guys be that touchy-feely with each other in real life.
And THAT ad brings me to the often quoted "Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go right NOW!"
Why is it that all I can think about now is commercials that somehow revolve around the bathroom?? Now I'm thinking of the Cottonelle puppy. LOL
Is that the one that is "Lab tested?" There is one now showing down this way that is for personal products--his and hers! I wouldn't say I'm a prude but this is just way to much information! I am so grossed out I can't remember the name--something like KY. Second thought, maybe the commerical has failed if I can remember the product's name.
I feel neutral about the Nasonex bee, but why does he have a Spanish accent? To make him memorable, or do spanish speakers have more sinus problems?
Oh my! You didn't recognize Antonio Bandaras? The voice of the cat in Shriek 3. LOL
I like the commercial where the man is standing in his yard and the narrator says something about 'Bob' (can't remember the name for sure) has a Trane? air conditioner and we'll let Bob explain how it works'. Bob just stands there not knowing what to say and he turns around and looks at his neighbor as if to say 'what do I say?', and the neighbor just walks off. That one is so funny to me.
An older one where the people are talking to their houses that are failing. One guy stands there all choked up looking at his furnace and says, "You've just let yourself go."
I love the Sonic couple, too!
I also love the one with the people fainting after sniffing things in there refrigerator.
I like the Geico Gecko (sp?).
I DON'T really like the new Six Flags commercials this season. "Six flags! More fun!"
(don't know if everyone see's this one everywhere)
abbisgranma- oh if antonio fell that low....it would be a sad sad day! I am sorry for Lindsay Wagner doing the mattress commercials, and Carol Burnett did some health insurance? Sally Field and Boniva.
Well, I guess in the case of the Nasonex I have a very "vivid" imagination. I can close me eyes and see him dancing or do the part of Che from Evita. Just nice eye/ear candy!! Makes one wonder why they do these commericals!
i hate the geigo commercials with the cave man
i have alot of favorite ones though.
right now i have two that i like alot.
i think both is for mcdonalds. the first one shows three different people trying to get breakfast ready. the first guy is trying to open up a bag of cereal and the contents go all over the floor and the second one is a woman flippping an egg omlette over the stove and the things falls into the flames. i forgot what the third one was.
the lastest cute commercial shows a mom and her young daughter inside a mc donalds and the mom asking for two icecream floats or something. the daughter tells her mom to order only one while she smiles at a young boy sitting in a back booth. the next thing you know an employye comes to their table with a ice cream float and says its compliements of the young man in the back. the girl looks at her mom and says "it's like shooting fish in a barrell"
Have't seen the McDonalds one yet. Do like the one with the bloodhound bringing a tray of food up to the man in bed, then that big dog sleeping under the covers. I love bloodhounds anyway. Hate the commercial with the so-called caveman. He looks like someone who's a couple weeks shy of a shampoo and a bath. Gross!
Oh dear. There must be something wrong with me. I like the cavemen.
I like the caveman commercials, too. I *hated* the sitcom. There is no way there was enough material to make that one fly.
Celebrities aren't necessarily hitting rock bottom to do commercials. Many celebs do them routinely for markets in other countries. It's no different than one of us picking up a waitressing job on the side. They money can be good, and it keeps them busy and in front of a camera - that's their lifeblood.
Ah, commercials. I'll try not to stand too tall on my soap box.
Billy Mayes yelling at the top of his lungs about yet another product. I will
admit, I don't buy any product he pushes, because when I use it, I can't help
but to hear him yelling, and can't stand it.
Car commercials with yelling. I turn them off, and won't buy a car from the lot.
Ignorant commercials, same thing. Overt sexual content, you're not getting my
money. If your product is that good, you will come up with a killer campaign to
catch everyone's attention, not just a select group. Hire a decent marketing
manager.
Commercials and ads I love best? Public service announcements. The kind
that someone may see one single time and it sticks in their mind. Where is
all the funding for littering commercials? Child abuse? Animal abuse? Any
social issue. Ugh.

Thank you, Wuvie. You expressed how I feel very well. When Billy Mayes comes on the TV I always mute it. He's funny to watch with no sound...especially when he smiles that cheesy smile. Ok, was that mean? Sorry.
I love the shooting fish in a barrel one, the look on the Mom's face is great!
The one for Travelocity was just on...the one where every time the guy tries to talk a jackhammer starts running and he ends up saying, "OH, REALLY?" I can just see that happening to us.
One I really don't like is the one where the woman says she needed to redecorate her husband. I don't know if it's how she delivers the line or what but it just doesn't come off funny...it comes off insulting to me.
Does anyone remember the catchy commerical Publix grocery stores sponsored for reading? I can't remember all the words to the song now but when you hear it--it will stay in your mind for days. Gone!!! Wish they would bring that one back.
kwanjin- I'm with you, and gardenwife- like the caveman humor and never really thought about how really grungy he is- he IS really grungy!
All car salesman commercials must be really dumb here, its a law--apparantly ! LOL
But the cavemen are metrosexuals, so they're all into exfoliating and hair products. LOL
OMgosh, GW, I'm howling!! Yes, I think the cavemen must brush their facial hair (and back hair) numerous times daily. Ewww!
I wonder if they groom each other...
Ewwww! Oh, gosh, that instantly brought a terrifying image to my mind....kinda like monkeys picking the bugs off of each other. Ewwww! LMBO!
If you like Orson Welles please don't watch this, but it is hilarious...he's obviously drunk and trying to do a commercial for champagne. "French sexellence" is my favorite line that he messed up!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3qg4i22x9M
I laugh at the current one for the restless leg syndrome medication that tells you to stop using it and talk to your doctor if it causes you to develop a gambling problem. (Fine. It's not Funny, but I laugh anyway.)
Oh, gosh, I never heard that part of that ad. It must make people compulsive? "Yeah, I feel great! My legs don't hurt anymore...but I don't have enough $ to keep buying my meds...I spent it all at the blackjack table." Oh, not good.
The one med warning that always gets me is the one where it says if you start having involuntary movements to call your doc right away because they may become permanent. I can't remember what med it is...but what exactly does this mean? Does that mean twitching eyebrows type of involuntary movement....or....flinging arms and dancing legs? Cause there's a BIG difference between the two.
Here it is. If the comments are an indication, I'm not the only one who finds it oddly amusing:

Yepper, it says it loud and clear. It also says it causes sleepiness and nausea. So maybe some side effects will rule out the others?
i once e-mailed quezinos (sp) about what i felt was a sexcist commercial where they interview woman and ask them about what they think of their sandwiches and the girl says something about how more meat makes the girls happy. i ws surprised thatthey e-mailed me back the next day and said that itwas not a scripted commercial and that the people on it used their own words but they also said the commercial was ending in the next few days.
Good for you Herbie!! I remember that commercial and it wasn't just stupid it was gross when that girl said that. It was a commercial I muted...so I think you spoke up for the masses when you wrote your e.mail.
The thing a bout that commercial is...THEY COULD HAVE USED SOMEONE ELSE'S ANSWER!!! SHEESH!!!
I saw that commercial one time and could not believe it. I'll take Subway, please.
How about the pregnancy test commercial where the thing is "floating" in space and a huge stream of urine comes arcing across the screen onto the test meter?! Then the announcer says, "it's the most sophisticated piece of technology that you'll ever pee on". My daughter and I were absolutely speechless!
My favorites are the Advantage commercials with the singing puppies. "There ain't no bugs on me..."
My DB's Golden looks just like the puppy from that ad...well, he did when he was smaller anyway.
And the pee on it ad...there was a lot of controversy over that one I guess. I think I remember DH saying something about seeing a bunch of hoopla over it on Yahoo news. But, yeah, I just stared at the screen on that one too. Hmm, maybe that's the reaction they want? Are us Americans WAY too into "shock and awe"??? There's something to think about.
i know sex sells but when you have tire commercials (where a couple are sitting on a sofa and she says that we the old car they couldn't go very far but now "they can go all the way because they have new tires"
I'm glad I missed that one! Just another one to mute now. I'm kinda starting to wonder just WHO sex sells to??? Because it sure isn't any of us!
Saw one last night...
J. G. Wentworth. He needs to go away. "It's my money and I need it now!"
I used to like watching the Subaru Outback commercials. The ones that had Crocodile Dundee in them.
