One chick is different??

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Nope, no red at all. Just cream, black and white there. His chest and belly have lots of white feathers coming in now.

I was reading something and a cord struck for me. Do you think Hercule could be a Silver Lakenvelder? http://www.mypetchicken.com/Lakenvelder-B61.aspx There's a roo pictured there that is similar to what I'm seeing showing in him!

MollyD

Good guess! Good guess! They have similar color to Delawares, but with more black on wings and tail and a darker head. Beak is suppose to be "dark horn" whatever that is. Was Ideal offering Lakenvelder? Better keep him away from TF--she has been coveting Lakenvelders;0)

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Ideal does offer Silver Lakenvelders! You think he jumped from one bin into another?? But how did those cream colored chicks end up with him? I can explain him but I sure have a hard time explaining those 4 cream colored chicks (okay 3 since one died but they were all the same).

What color is his legs?? Lakenvelders have blue/gray legs and feet. Ideal does sell Lakenvelders thats where I got mine.

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Judy they aren't blue gray! At least not to my eyes. Okay I found a picture where his legs show some. This was last week so he's already feathered out more than in this picture.

well, obviously he is not the roo you ordered. i will sadly take him off your hands and give him a good placed to grow up and retire. call it the home for unwanted LakenRoos.... ^_^

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

LOL Oh no he's been given a name. That means he stays and not in a pot (for now) LOL

Here is a picture of my Lakenvelders

well, if he ever MAY go into a pot, put him in a box and ship him instead, deal?

College Station, TX

If you look closely you see their legs are blue/black, they are just babys don't have all their feathers yet

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Judy I suspect that he's not a pure Lackenvelder. He's got everything yours does except the leg color. He has these huge eyes too. His head is getting dark and now he's got white feathers all over his chest.

MollyD

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

yes, i see that Hercules is likely a cross, as we first suspected [clearing throat].... but it is so nice to know what he will look like later, only with yellow legs...

tf

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

well, all THREE of us CROSSED our posts. LOL

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

tf if there is any way possible to send him I will. He may cost you the earth for shipping given how the po's rates keep going up!

Judy how old are yours?

MollyD

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

and still crossing posts!

Mollyd

College Station, TX

They are 8 weeks old, don't have their tail feathers yet, but they have their mustaches LOL they are very sweet

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

That's how Hercule got his name LOL His mustache. His tail is just beginning. It's about 1.5" long (guessing here) and looks to be the same color as his wings. Today I noticed he's getting those flaps of skin under the jaw the roos get. I don't know what they're called (they match the comb). He was a 5/5 hatch date so he's younger than yours. I guess whatever he's crossed to (might be that missing Delaware blood!) is making him mature a bit faster. There are lots of dark feathers beginning on the back of his head now. He's a bit aggressive towards other males. Always challenging them. He's the chick that got into a fight with the goose when he (and the goose) was one week old! The goose won LOL!

Wattles?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

or Waddles? lol. i bet you can find hercules a good home there if you don't actually get attached and keep him

at least now the case of the appearing mustache is solved, for now!

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

LOL YES Wattles that's the word! Thanks Catscan. I use to know these things but way back when I turned 40 my brain began dumping stuff it thought I would never need again. Now I can't find half the words I need!!

Tf Hercule is staying put LOL mustache and all. I may have to keep another roo too. Maybe one of the NH ones. They're pretty friendly guys.

MollyD

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

OK, well think i have my hands full here, but thanks for thinking of me!

be willing to pay shipping for osme more raspberry bushes. those haven't rooted yet, so i've only planted the one...

tf

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

tf did you try rooting them with some rooting hormone? Here wherever they touch the ground they send out roots on their own. Sure I'd be glad to send more. I think it ran about $5. for that box. I can probably pack some more in a box. dmail me.

MollyD

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Molly - you threw me for a moment...I thought you were trying to 'root' chicks! ^_^

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

ROFL! Yeah a new way to make more chicks!!! LOL A little rooting hormone mixed with chicken feed and the next thing you know they're rooted to the ground and putting out runners with chick clones at the ends!! LOL

MollyD

Lodi, United States

Well--there is that succulent "Hens and Chicks". So it works!

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

LOL!!!

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

LOL good one Catscan!

Johnson City, TX(Zone 8b)

Ya'll are hilarious. Don't you know that TF
would have little rootlings everywhere if that's
all it took? She'd root everything- and 3x over! LOL

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

well, first i would divide, then graft...

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Okay what would you graft on what and why?

MollyD

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

i will have to coniue thinking on that...

Dallas, TX

Molly I do believe a couple of autographed pictures are in order! lol.
Hercules is very handsom! Mixed or not I think he's lovely and still worth breeding.

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

LOL yeah but who gets them? Maybe everyone for trying to help us out. Let me get some new ones of him (he's added more feathers lately).

MollyD

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

make sure he send soneto the chicken fairy FIRST!

Foley, MO

Oh my! This thread has certainly changed from whence it started LOL!

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

we could go back to singing that song, "one chick is different from the other... do you know which one it is, can you guess which chick is different from the others? before i finish this song?"

Foley, MO

ROTFLMAO!!! : 0 )
