things we did wish we hadn't

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i repotted winter/spring sown cosmos before going to NYC last week. There are picotee and summer dreams. Did i mark which group was which? O no, of course not!
grrrr.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Amy - I have a couple of ancient maple tree stumps that provide a great place for flowers. If you can carve out a depression in it, you can fill it with good soil and plant impatiens if it's shady or trailing petunias if it's sunny. I have both, and they do very well. As the stump decomposes it seems to provide good stuff for the plants. I've had my shade one for many years. I call it my stump garden. It also has some variegated hosta in the area surrounding it.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

They are very decomposing already. Heaven knows what might skitter out if i tried to carve or drill in them. ewww. But they have a lot of cracks. i know there are things that will grow in sidewalk cracks, that's what i want...

Up and ready to go - to an auction. I am going after this hard.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

did you make or buy the bunny pavers?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I'd go for the bunny fountain and pavers too Sherrie! Good luck to you!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

For pickup only, I would assume. Imagine what the shipping would cost!

If you don't get the bunny stepping stones, BUY the mold off ebay!!! I have a number of molds and making the SS is EASY, fun and CHEAP. The molds themselves are all that expensive considering the reuse.

Do keep us posted, we want to KNOW!

The stepping stones went for 2 bucks apiece, I did not go any higher than a buck.
So here ya go. 2 gazing balls, the wheel barrow is all ready sold.

Oop got the pics backwards. The planters went reasonable, they are big. The middle one had a 100 buck price tag alone, that one has a saucer, I paid 50 bucks.

Now the gazing balls.

DH bought the mower basically for the leaf and grass bags. Got it home and it started up! It needs a new belt. DH paid 120 bucks.

Now the bunny fountain. It has a motor ! It is still on the trailer as DH has bit the bullet for today. I got it for 120 bucks - I bet you could not buy it new for 350.00

OH WOW!! You got the bunny fountain!!! Good for you, it's VERY cute!

this is NOT the same bunny stepping stone but I thought you MIGHT be interested. I am NOT associated with the seller etc, I have bought quite a bit from this person and they have been GREAT!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Holy Moley! $120 for that tractor?!! I tried buying a crappy old riding mower a few years ago around here. The cheapest I found was $200 and they were all junk! No John Deere, nuttin'. You got a steal. Nice going!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I thought it was just the fountain and the trailer is already Sherrie's??

Trailer is in my name and dang the truck, also that white car in one pic. Not the point, I was going to get garden stuff. Now where is the flowers and other stuff? Either I am going to get it done or go BANKRUPT and BROKE !!!!

We got good deals today but not nothing to write home to mother about. My veggie garden is about 1/4 planted and I probably should of planted my butt in there today. Instead of doing what I did.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

If it's plants you are lacking, maybe it's time to hit the swap & trade forum and ask if anyone has some stuff for postage??? You never know!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Good idea what if we have nothing to trade.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

What do you need, Sherrie? I got in bad with DH a few days ago for spending so much on postage that was for trades. Of course, veggie starts from HD wouldn't ship really well, but what else?

I have a naked lawn as you all know. I dont know what way to go. I would like to go Victors way - but I dont know.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Well I still have much more lawn than I like.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I once placed an ad on Craigslist that I would work in somone's flower garden, thinning, & weeding in exchange for some of the "thinned out stuff". I got quite a few nice plants that way. Of course if you have a REAL game plan and want specific plants, then you won't have much luck that way. I also make my own cement stepping stones from molds so I usually have something I can trade local! Even those who offer up something for free I try to at least bring a stepping stone or some of my pink lilies. The lilies multiple like rabbits so I use them for LOTS of trades! They are beautiful in bloom.

I have several friends with mature gardens and they are very generous. This is not my "forever home" so I'm not quite as choosey & particular about the EXACT choices in my landscaping. I love being able to walk thru my garden and say "this is from Holly, this is from Eva, this is from Lorinda... "
