I'm so happy your travels back here to NE were safe, and that you are among us once again.
Welcome 'home'!!
(This is a photo of the new spring cactus I received yesterday. It's 'Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri', which I have to look up in the PlantFiles)
Welcome Back 'Home', Louise
Welcome home Louise.
Isn't it cooler here? you must ahve a whole different garden.
Welcome back, Louise!
Welcome home !!
I know I already welcomed you home on another thread....but Welcome Back! Cold enough for ya???
Well, what a nice surprise to find this thread!!! Thanks so much for the thoughtful welcome....Here it is almost a year ago that you, Candyce, sent me my very first DG Welcome and message, and leave it to you to start such a nice thread!
Thank you for your very kind messages, Jo Anne, Victor, Celeste, Sherrie and Jen!!
I am happy to be back closer to my DG friends.......don't tell anyone, but there is just no Forum like this one for caring, interesting, friendly, fun people!
And YES! It is quite different from Florida! I actually like the cooler temps up here, and I'm so happy we didn't miss seeing a real Spring! Not sure I'll like the high 30s temps tomorrow though.
Thanks again,
Louise
oh, and Candyce - I really love the color of your new cactus! What a lovely Mother's Day gift!
Thanks very much, Allison! Beautiful photos! And I can't take credit for that! Nice of you to give me undeserved credit though.
Louise
Welcome back to the Northeast. Eleanor
Thanks, Eleanor! And how is little Colin doing - besides talking up a storm! LOL
Welcome home from me and the cats.
Oh, this is so fun to have such a nice thread!! Thank you, Cat.and Cats!! LOL
well now I don't remember who to thank for the advice on the program.... oh well thanks to who ever it was
did you bring back any goodies?
Louise - Colin has reached the terrible two's!! (and I've reached the end of my rope - just kidding, sort of) He is very trying these days and into everything, not responding to "no", and temper tantrums. He is still the sweet little boy that I adore though. He is coming up with more words everyday and loves to count everything he can get his hands on. Yesterday I let him sit in the computer chair by himself and he acted so grown - up and used his computer very carefully. His computer fits over my keyboard and has three different levels of programs. He has mastered the first two levels and is able to wait patiently after he presses a key for somehing to happen on the screen. At first he would keep pressing keys continuously because he loves to push buttons (especially mine)!!! Eleanor
the good news is terrible 2 usually goes by quickly
Welcome home Louise!
Eleanor, Colin is so cute!
Welcome back, Eleanor. Colin is very handsome and studious! Before ya know it he'll be off to school and you'll be missing these days, so enjoy it! He's a lucky boy to have so much time with his Gram.
Cute shot, Eleanor!
Thanks everyone! Eleanor
Oh, Eleanor, Colin looks so cute sitting at "his" computer. That's adorable! As Allison said, I'm sure the terrible twos will soon morph into the awesome threes! At least I hope so for your sake!
WC and Deb - thank you both for the warm welcome.........it is nice to be back, even though some local vandals took out our mailbox (the original one here at the farm from the 1920s) last night right after we got home from Conn. This morning when we went for our walk, we noticed that they also helped themselves to all the street signs and stop signs on the road. I think it may have something to do with graduation pranks. But in any event, my DH spent his birthday morning today replacing the post and beating the heck out of the old mailbox to get it back into shape. It is now worthy of receiving mail again
Nance - thank you also for the welcome back, even though I'm not Eleanor. LOL I remember how confusing all the "real" names were (and still are!), so I'm just going to presumptuously assume you were welcoming me, as well as Eleanor! :) It is so nice to have so many nice new DG friends, along with all the "old" friends here.......you just can't beat the kindness, can you???!
Allison - yes, I brought a handful of goodies back, but I so wanted to bring back many other things. Our car was so packed it was pathetic. I did bring back a hibiscus cutting that I am hoping to baby through the summer and return him to his rightful place in my Fla. garden.
Thanks again, everyone!!!
Louise
Shame about the mailbox, that was an antique, I've seen similar 'authentic' ones and my DW loves them. I would have removed it and kept it inside. I have an old cheap mailbox and refuse to replace it... I've seen what kids do on Halloween to mailboxes with baseball bats, (particularly the nice ones). As for the street signs a couple of kids removed a stop sign in Fla as a prank 4 or 5 yrs ago... with deadly results. They caught the kids - 16yr olds. The one that removed it is now doing a life sentence - True story. ☺
What a dolt I am, Louise. Thanks for understanding my brain hiccup. I am so happy I found DG and all you wonderful people.
What a loss on the mailbox. I don't understand the mentality of the people who "get off" on doing things like that. Mailboxes, grave stones, cars .... I don't get it.
Do you have any ideas for a replacement?
WC - As I said to my DH, it is the theft of stop signs that concerns me the most. As you point out, the result of that "prank" can take lives. Our road is a lightly traveled dirt road, but other places where they took them are not. Kids sometimes don't think about the tragedies that can occur. As to our mailbox, it is back up and in place. I suggested to my DH that we put it up next to my potting shed for our little grandsons to receive "mail" from us there, but he insisted on putting it back out at the road. I'll take a photo of it later.
Oh - sorry to hear about your trouble Louise. You don't seem to have luck lately in either location.
Thanks, Victor. These are just small things on the continuum.....minor annoyances compared to all the good things in both locations. We just seem to be in the path of the jerks that are roaming around the areas.......it is some relief to know that we weren't singled out, as that would be more troublesome to me.
Good way to think about it Louise.
Yuo have better things to do.
Hopefully the idiots will take care of any bills that were in the mailbox!
Very nice summer home donnybrook.
Mailbox looks right at home.
Thank you, Jo Anne! Everything here is well-worn, including us and our dog! LOL

I'll be thinking of you in those cool woods when we are baking in the July heat.
I am charmed by the difference in atmosphere and character between the two places.
Wood pecker is just right nice carving for a blind man.
Sherrie - I'll have to think about that one!! LOL
Jo Anne - Our blind friend is truly amazing. He cuts himself often, but I think he does a great job, and I am so honored to have this. At first my DH put it out on a big maple beside our road, but I requested he move it to a less vulnerable tree.....now I'm glad I did. The mailbox jerks may have taken a shine to him!!
It's really sad that home owners have to hide the objects they love. I have a weathervane that is behind a bush in the garden..for the same reason.
Kids in this neighborhood like to do "lawn jobs" with their cars, another annoying trick. Hope it happens to them when they are in their seventies and it hurts to repair the tracks.
What comes around, goes around, Jo Anne!
