What I Got at the Round Up

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

I thought this might be fun for the new folk. I was walking around what is left of my garden after two years of frost. Here are some things from past roundups that are still thriving. I should have done this a month ago when more was blooming.

This flower is really orange. I cannot get the digital camera to do it justice.

A sea of white lavender-Donna you should see this. It truly is a sea.

frogs, should I show what I've developed from the starts of plecs that I got from you? lol.....you wouldn't believe it! Or the fact that don's starts of salvias have determined the rest of my life?

Hey there! Do you have a bit of Wooly to spare? My 6 foot beauty was lost to this years frost as well as many of my salvias. What is with this weather?

Here is a salvia to match the verbena.

I think I do have Wooly...I say think because I didn't make permanent labels in time and some of the wooden ones faded..( I do wish that I got everything done when it should be done. I'm kinda swamped.) Are there any others of the plecs that you lost that I might have? I've kept them in pots and propagated from them that way. Actually had no idea that Wooly got that large. My ecklonii have gone into 5 gallon pots and need to get into the ground in a suitable location. I need to start on a new round of propagating with the plecs, I've been really busy with the salvia and some other things lately.
The penstemon looks like 'Appleblossom'...is it? I just picked one up this week. I'm starting on an 'Appleblossom' thing. I'm thinking Appleblossom pelargonium, appleblossom clematis, appleblossom everything as a theme for a collection. Love that coloration.

Well, at least it's not ugly stuff that survived, Janet! That orchid is beautiful and so is the penstemon. The plectranthus I got from you at my first roundup died in last year's freeze. :-(

K, welcome home.....

Good Morning all. Yes that is Appleblossom. Pretty isn't she? Plenty of ugly stuff survived. Every *#%@%% seasonal grass type weed is still alive and well.
This is the plec that I am looking for.

I'll look as soon as I've had my coffee, but I think so. Good info to know because I got nowhere on info for 'wooly' plec, should have looked in plant files first rather than googling everything. Especially to know that it gets that large. I've been afraid of giving them too much sun and yet argentatus is doing well in full sun here and a couple of others (variegateds) that ended up in sun out on my tables are doing quite well. Do you grow yours in much sun?

Thanks, Sherry, it was a great visit. Mom is doing very well, thank goodness, and had a margarita at her birthday dinner! Bought her a bunch of gee-gaws for the deck and garden. She makes out have a birthday so close to Mother's Day! lol

I just received an orchid as a gift and I really don't know how to care for it. It is from a Japanese gardener who raises them, so I'm told. I need help on this one for sure.

They are really not very demanding, Samigal, but some require different care. Why don't you check on the orchid forum? They can tell you what it is and give you tips on the culture. I just got back from my sister's in Oregon and she must have close to 75 growing in the house. Some need artificial light, some don't; some are "window sill" plants. Good luck and enjoy your new plant!

Thanks KaperC I'm off to the orchid forum. Never thought I could raise an orchid, but now I'll have to try.
