I planted out my WS babies yesterday

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

It was an overcast day, with steady rain forecasted, and they were looking pretty crowded in their containers. Funny, though, as big as they looked in their jugs and bottles, they looked awfully tiny when I got them in the ground in my butterfly garden! I sure hope they take off! I planted out:

Swamp milkweed (Ice Ballet)--Critter, did I tell you it did sprout shortly after our conversation about it?
Anise
Ox-Eye Orange Sunflower
Bronze Fennel
Agastache "Honey Bee White"--lots!
Lupine Russell Hybrids Mix

Next year, I'll definitely do more milk jugs, and scrap the individual water bottles. They were so hard to get the seedlings out of, and were really sharp when I tried cutting the bottles off to free the roots that were twined in the ridges in the bottoms!

I also got my cucumbers planted, and the veggie garden tilled, so it was a very productive morning!

Great Booker, you got a lot done .

I too planted some WS containers , herbs and a few in the butterfly garden yesterday , in between a cookout. Got 38 heirloom tomatoes planted to with about 200 more I plan to put out . I didn't winter sow them but plan to do some next season. But I had some old Roma tomatoes seeds I gave a try and sure enough they are growing in the milkjug. Got to transplant them as well, they were kind of a surprise cuz the weeds are growing around the milkjugs and it was hidden.

Thats another thing that I will change for next year too, putting all my jugs in a cold frame, so they will all be contained, can lift the lid for when its really nice and warm and close when they are up and growing over the top of their containers and protect from late frost and hard rains.

Isn't that Agastache (from Critter) wonderful. I'm going to plant mine this morning.

These winter sow plants are so much better looking then the ones I planted inside. And way less trouble too.

The WS roots are coming out the bottom drain holes. so got to get to planting.

I have sooooo many to still plant in the gardens. I got carried away but plan to do even more next WS, LOL.

One can collect a lot of milkjugs during the off WSing months ^_^

Happy gardening to you Booker, can't wait to see pic of your butterfly garden and veggie garden too .

I agree, you can't beat milk jugs.

I'm busy planting out, too. Problem is, when I have time to plant we get monsoon rain. A nice warm sunny day is due tomorrow, but, of course, I have to work.
