Fairy Gardens 2008

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

These roosters were spotted yesterday in one of the fairy gardens.
Good to keep the bug population down!

Cute beahive! I have a tiny rooster I got as a child. He sits in a glass front cabinet though. I was reminded of this thread when I noticed a photo of a fairy garden a reporter had taken at the Hondo Iris Farm. It is a really fun place to shop and plan a daytrip around in my area. I haven't been by this season and didn't know she has fairy gardens on the property. Can't find that photo but thought I would share this link

in case you want to check it out. Her jewelry is fun and shopping in that setting it wonderful. It is about an hour from my house and up in the mts. so very cool in the summer months.

cactuspatch..looks like a fantastic place to visit. The Iris's are beautiful! They sell very beautiful artwork. Was not able to get the link for the Native American jewelry, but will try again later.
Thanks for sharing!

I am going by there on Thursday and plan to stop. Glad you enjoyed the link. That one in the center of the page didn't work but I think another near the top did.

She has lots more jewelry in the store than is online. I don't mean to hijack the thread--just that I will try and find some of the fairy gardens (if they are open as I pass by Thursday) and take a few pix!

I hope no one has already asked this question, but when placing your fairies in your garden, what do you do to protect the colors on them? Do you use some kind of UV Block stuff? Or do you simply just keep them in the shade completely. I have about 10 CM Barker flower fairies that I just bought for my new fairy garden and I don't want to ruin them by having them get discolored in the sun. Any suggestions?

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Good question, Bradshaw, I'd like to know the answer also. I haven't put mine outdoors yet, either.

Plano, TX

got my fairy house! now to add my own touches--almost bought a fairy too but then figured out it was a garden angel!! did you see the fairy doors and windows? they go on a tree and it looks like the fairy lives in a tree--saw it on ebay--there were gnome doors too

Hi all-

I've just proposed a new forum just for miniature gardens and fairy gardens.

Please make a comment to show your support for this, if you'd like to see Miniatures and Fairy Gardens, have their own forum.
Thank you!

Hey everyone-in a couple weeks I am going to do a "Fairy Garden & Fairy Garden Art" swap-it should be a good time:)

Plano, TX

i agree--i would like to get ideas from others on a site like this

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

A fairy garden swap sounds like fun, Fairy. And who better to host one than you, Fairy!

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Everyone please post here:

thank you

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Already did:)

Plano, TX

how do you protect your fairy garden from forces of nature? do you make them in protected spots? indoors etc

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I was wondering the same thing. I know to would take using liquid nails to glue my fairy on a rock to keep my labs from retrieving her.

Lindenhurst, NY

Oh, I just love the idea of a fairy garden. I find this intriguing:-) I've been thinking about starting my first fairy garden since I came across this thread yesterday.

can I ask everyone, what is your favorite online ordering site?

Thanks
Maureen

Michaela is steeling my idea-get her Cdawg!! You are the one that said my idea sounded fun!!

I have been harassing Michaela all over DG about it!!;)

Love you michaela!!

Plano, TX

fairy yours is different--you need to go ahead with your idea and michaela with hers --they both have something unique

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Yep, I agree. I'll be in both swaps. Looking forward to the annual fantasy swap. I missed it last year. And yours too Fairy, a designated "Fairy Garden & Fairy Garden Art". Both will be fun. I'm buying some seeds for the fantasy swap so I'll have enough appropiately named. Then with the upcoming Fairy swap, I'm sure I'll use collected seeds from my fairy flowers. I'm already shopping for the art part.

Lindenhurst, NY

Planolinda - where did you get your fairy house? I just bought a fairy, bench, flower pot, watering can and a bird house from enchangted gardens. I haven't bought a house yet though.

I've seen the doors -- they are so adorable.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I had to harass her about adding the fairy garden stuff is all:) She knows I am kidding....no worries here ladies:)

Plano, TX

i got my fairy house from the grocery store--it is a 2 story birdhouse but is made to look like a house and so has a little door on the bottome with an arch way over it--there is a window on the second story which is actually for the birds to come in and out of--so on the ground it works as a fairy house with a door and window, chimney etc--it is nice because it even has some trim and a few eves to make it have more detail--the paint was right too--washed out white with light green trims--i addes deeper pink for the door and window frames--

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

OH-we have to see a pic!!!!!! I found the cutest one at a discount store yesterday-it was a birdhouse set up like an old plantation style house, complete w/ a porch and all!! I didn't get it-it was like $40!! It was about 3' wide and 2 story:) I did get one though-not sure what it was meant to be, but it is a 2 story house w/ lots of windows and chimneys:) I am painting it tonight-it was red, it will be white:) I would LOVE to find some small ivy like foliage to glue on it...does anyone know where I can find that?? I was going to look at michaels, not sure if they will have ti though...

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Fairy-several of the sites I listed on the Tiny Gardens forum, have foliage. Check out the dollhousecollectables.com site

I know they have hanging baskets, trellises, roses and greenery for trellises, etc.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

thanks:) I will check them out!!!

South, TX

I am going to order a few things today. Love all of the ideas and photos.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Those birdcage fflowers things would be a perfect fairy gazebo!! That had a couple things on there for fairy gardens!!

Plano, TX

i have my fairy house under some rosemary which is growing over and around it--i like that look-where the fairys are kind of hidden and you need to look a little longer to see it all--so i don't think i will use that many miniatures --i have a tiny birdhouse in front of the fairy house and a little path of shiny colored glass but might not use too many miniatures --every so often i see something in the house and think it would look nice out there and so i move it out to join the fairies!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Oh-we really want a picture now-PPPUUUULLLLEEEAAASSSEEE:)

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Yes, Linda - pictures!!! (Or we'll tell the fairies on you!)

Plano, TX

well i do not have a camera but i think i need one!!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

What about camera phone or someone that has one-friends or family?????? I REALLY want to see it....just offering alternative suggestions...
