CLOSED: Wasp nest??

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

This is hanging on my wall out in the front- one of my friends in the SW forum said it looks like a mud wasp nest! I haven't seen any activity but will squish it if I can get some confirmation on it! I have two little ones and won't tolerate flying stinging/biting things!

It looks to me like a 'dirt dobbers' nest, I don't know the scientific name. These insects resemble a wasp or hornet. The nest is actually filled with the eggs and several small, dead insects; such as spiders and things. They are usually built and then left alone for the eggs to hatch on thier own. When the eggs hatch, the insects will consume the food inside and 'hatch' out of one end of the nest.

Interesting! I was informed by another SW member that they are harmless...not to mention help with the spider population which makes me happy!! They won't go after my kids or sting them if the kids are in the pool will they?

They are peaceful creatures and will not attack.

Thanks a bunch! I'll leave the nest alone =0)
