Fun planters

(Zone 7a)

So, I'm looking through some pics of plant IDs and things, I see in the background of one, a terrarium in an aquarium. (Say that 5 times fast.) I've seen this before and I have one I'm now going to put plants in. (Thanks, Plantladylin.)

What do you have that's different and that a lot of people would not think to put plants in? I used to have a pair of old boots I put pansies in.

Show us your stuff!

Happy gardening.

I love unusual planters, they are so fun. A few years ago I bought a small pig feeder off of eBay for the sole purpose of planting in it...since I'm not allowed to have piggies here. I usually have it hanging on the side of our little barn. It's one of my favorite planters because it's so goofy.

I had more and better pics of these planters, but I think my computer ate them. MMM, yummy!

Here's something I picked up at a yard sale a few years ago. In this pic I had Baby Jew planted in it...which never did good in that spot. But I still thought it's a cute planter.

In my old neighborhood one of the families down the block redid their bathroom. The contractors left their old ...er... "facilities" right there on the lawn and I guess the homeowners did not want to pay to have them hauled away, so they left them right in the middle of the lawn and used them as planters. This did not go over well, as it was a very nice area, but they did it anyway. Maybe I'll go by and take photos. It looks absurd.

The frame looks like a piece of modern sculpture. Quite Arty!

How about a deep injection well casing for a planter? Also have a cattle bunk (feeding trough) using for veggies and herbs.

Deep injection well? I'm curious.

Let me see if I can explain this! They were/are used by companies who had deep wells put down for water, non hazardeous product residue and to monitor water movement. These casings were used during the exploratory stages/process. After completion the casings were pulled out. I happened to be the recipient of a piece of casing and decided to use it as a planter. The one I am using is large but they could vary in size.

Okay, I get you. My DD works for an oil inspection company. Maybe I could ask her for some ideas, too.

It is very interesting some of the items using with drilling (most all types) and some great things to make planters. I even had some core samples that had hollow centers I used for succulents. I didn't move those when I moved to this address--only my big casing!! You can only imagine the "rolling of eyes and groans" when I told my children I was not leaving it!

I hope you told them that when they're your age , they'll see the young'uns rolling THEIR eyes! LOL

As luck would have it, my son has a 5 year old who does it already. Paybacks are so much fun! They didn't give me to much grief as they knew the story behind the casing/planter. My husband was a hydrogeologist and was project manager for one such drilling session. When it came home for the weekend he decided to load (not an easy job) the casing and bring it home. Just before arriving home he realized it was Valentine's Day. Need I say more?

LOL That's funny! And, yes, paybacks are great! My DD knows this now. She is a rig/pipe inspector. Who'd have thought that just 2 years ago she was drifting all over the country doing nothing? We were thinking of changing her name to "Dharma"!!!

I made this out of an old advertising lamp.
