kerria japonica

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

Just would love some feedback on this shrub. Easy? Diificult? How big? Is the yellow like forsythia?

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Easy to grow; grows to 1-3m tall, prefers full sun but will tolerate some shade. Can look a bit untidy. The flowers are a similar tone of yellow to Forsythia.

The natural type with single flowers* is much more attractive than the double-flowered cultivar 'Pleniflora' that is far more commonly sold**, but may be difficult to find.

Be careful, though, it can be invasive sometimes!

Northeast, IL(Zone 5b)

I have one that I divided and moved last year. The stems are a nice bright green and the leaves are attractive IMO. I have the double-flowered variety, and agree that the single flower version looks more appealing. It's an open, kind of leggy, tall (4 ft or so) plant. I have read that the double flowered variety prefers part shade, and have noticed that the flowers do tend to look burned/faded in sun, which is why I moved it. Too early to tell whether it/they will thrive in their new home. At least they're still alive! Have not found it to be invasive in my yard.
