Is this some type of tree?

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

This has been growing for the past few weeks and I have NO clue what it is. I tried for an ID over at the "Plant ID" forum but had no luck. Any guesses? Thanks.

Loquat?

(Zone 6b)

It's not a Loquat, they have toothed leaves.

There are so many tropical plants native and naturalized down there in South Florida that it could be any number of things. It kind of looks like one of the Asian subtropical Persimmons (Diospyros sps.) to me, not necessarily the species sold in grocery stores under the name Japanese Persimmon(D. kaki), but then again the leaf petioles look different to most Persimmon species I'm familiar with. It also has the look of something in the Laurel family, but it's just so young and small it's really hard to say.

All I know is that it's a volunteer. I'm guessing a bird had something to do with it being in my little garden. I'll keep a watchful eye on it and as it gets bigger, I'll put up another photo. Unfortunately, if it's going to be a nice tree, it will have to be transplanted. There is just no room for a tree where it's growing :(

Thanks, Passiflora and Kman.

HAHAHAHAHA! When I saw the picture, I thought - Avocado tree. Then, I saw NeNative's comment about a bird having something to do with said tree's arrival in the garden, & the visual on that combo is hilarious! I dunno - maybe a "passing" (pardon the pun) Pterydactyl??? Or, at least, an ostrich - wait - they don't FLY, do they!!!??? Samantha

Ya just nevah know what those flying creatures might drop :)

As long as the plant is small, I'd dig it up and pot it now. If the plant turns out to be something worthwhile, it will be ready to move to a good spot. If left to get too big where it is, it may not be able to be moved successfully when you want to move it.
