Sixties protest/sixties weird songs...

(Zone 7a)

This thread will be for me and anyone who loves music from this era. It came from another thread I had about making some CDs for a brother of mine. I would like suggestions for songs that YOU like. Anything you heard on Dr. Demento, the radio, a friends house...whatever.

Protest:

Four Dead In Ohio-Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
Eve Of Destruction-Barry McGuire
Anything by Bob Dylan
Zombie-Cranberries
etc...

Weird:

Delilah-Tom Jones
While the City Sleeps-MC 900 Foot Jesus
Red Sector A-Rush

You get the idea.

Ready for some fun?

(Zone 7a)

Anyone?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

protest? Ball of Confusion--seems to fit today like in the early 70s or about- we have it on a 70s disc I think.
liked Dr Demento but can't tell you any songs from it

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I have a 12 cd collection of songs from Dr' Demento's collection ( about 300 songs by various artists) as well as a lot ( about 200 songs) of Ray Stevens such as these http://www.cmt.com/artists/az/stevens_ray/337730/album.jhtml :~)

For a complete list of all the songs played by Demento over the years check out http://dmdb.org/playlists/

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I do wish someone would explain the whole thing behind McArthurs Park...it remains a mystery to me to this day.

How about "Societies Child' by Janis Ian ??? That one really caused a commotion !!!

We were totally forbidden to listen to anything by the Beatles when they got into their "drug music". My dad would say, "...those long-haired creeps... makin' songs about takin' DOPE". !!! LOL

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

"Judy in Disguise" was a spoof on the Beatles' Luctythe Sky"...wasn't it ?

they stone you when your walking out the door----
everybody must get stoned

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

If only I could rededicate some brain cells, which I have used to permanently record the sound of that Melanie song, to a higher purpose.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

LOL! Sallyg! Sorry to bring it back to mind. :)

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

They took all the trees
Put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Hey farmer farmer
Put away that DDT now
Give me spots on my apples
But leave me the birds and the bees
Please!

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Late last night
I heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi
Took away my old man

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Well, since you've left the 60s already, No Anchovies for weird.

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh my gosh, I had that Melanie album. I completely forgot about that song.

Sallyg...well said.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Ditto !

(Zone 7a)

This is fun, bringing back all the memories. I'm still having difficulties wiht my music program. Who has a free download program that they trust? I had LimeWire but it's giving me fits right now.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I signed up for some Russian mp3 site just so my kid could get a bunch of little stuff. I bought a minimum 20 bucks tho and only used a few bucks of it. Now I can't figure out what passwiord I used!!

so don't ask me!

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

I'm not sure of the year, but there was a REALLY weird song...

"I got a rose between my toes
from walking barefoot thru the
hot house to you."

That's all I remember. I don't know who sang it, either.

OH!
Must not forget:

May the Bird of Paradise Fly up Your Nose
by Little Jimmy Dickens

"May the bird of paradise fly up your nose.
May an elephant caress you with his toes.
May your wife be plagued with runners in her hose.
May the bird of paradise fly up your nose"

Nancy

(Zone 7a)

ROTFLOL That sounds like fun! Now if I could only find it.
