High winds and driving rain here yesterday and last night. We even had a tornado just four miles from our house two nights ago. Totally destroyed part of a subdivision but no damage in our immediate area, and thankfully, no loss of life.
Here are two bluebird fledglings, hunkered down this morning under the leaves of some daylilys and peonies. They (and I) were surprised by a male ruby-throated hummer, out looking for nectar, despite the weather. Hope you can see it.

Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 3
I see him! Very cute shot!!
HA! That really makes me laugh. Those two are so adorable!
Cute shots Dave expecially the second one! Glad that tornado didn't get any closer they have sure been active this Spring! We had one recently pass within a mile all around us and it was kinda scary!
Very cute nanny! Nice pic!!!
Dave... you always seem to be in the right place at the right time!
Those baby blues have an "oh crap" look on their faces, with that humminbird approaching!
Nanny...that is a cute pic of the Hummer on the wire! It seems everywhere I go those little Hummers are all around even when I go to the woods!
Rose, you don't have to rub it in!!!
Hope they are eating lots of wood ticks!!
LOL! Mrs. Ed...I can only hope!! One thing for sure...I will always pick up a tick when I venture to the woods!! I'm sure the Hummers are moving North...they will be there to swarm you in no time! I think the ones we have are from previous years as there has always been many. Even when I wasn't feeding they would go for the natural nectar.
Well let's hope, Here's my hummingbird-butterfly bed contents:
— White coneflower
— purple monarda
— pink monarda
— black and blue salvia
— red salvia (texas sage, if I can get the seeds to germinate, I have to plant them AGAIN)
— Paprika yarrow
— Mixed yarrow
— Columbine
— Blue Agastache
— White Agastache
— Cardinal climber
And a few other things that aren't really for the HBs or BFs.
They should love that Cardinal Climber and the Black&Blue Salvia.
I heard that the Agastache (hyssop) is really good too. I got those seed from "critterologist."
And I learned about the salvia from YOU, Pelle!
Other than the columbine though, not a lot in the spring category. Lots of late blooming stuff. I guess that's not bad since I KNOW I have late visitors.
Great pic Murmur! They look a lot like the RT Hummers!
Wonderful pic Murmur!
I had good luck bringing in my hummers with a Fushia hanging basket and I have gotten them every Mothers Day for the hummers.
they also like honey suckle. There is a new red one I am going to get for my little friends.
Great pics all
Amos
WOW! Murmur!
What a great shot!
Oh, my - I never get that many at one time . . . the lighting may not be the best, but they are still great photos!
Some very nice pictures of hummers everyone, We finally welcome our last week. I tried to get a picture, when they got here, but wasn't fast enough. So the last 3 days, I concentrated on getting some.
I didn't see any hummers today. Yesterday, I only saw one. Do you think the ones I had earlier have gone farther north? They may be over at my neigbors.
We saw several yesterday, no pics. I think our regulars are starting to show up though!
Thanks Murmur. I get more than that even, every day. I am constantly filling those feeders. :p I do like that one with all the hummers around it. It can accomodate several and is very easy to clean. It has a wide mouth and the bottom opens up easily. Got it at Walmart. ;-)
I have a lot of feeders, too, but none with that wide bottom - need to get one! I think I have seven feeders right now, one of them is a tall, huge cylinder but the others are all of a more normal size.
Creek...those are great shots of the Hummers...goodness you sure have lots of them!
Burn...Love the evening and day shots of your Hummer and feeder. I am so happy to see all of your birds now that Spring is in Canada and your snow has melted!
Thanks Rose, Also happy to see the hummers, and up to last week, there was still snow in the wooded area.
You have some really awesome shots of the birds in your country setting. And what great variety of birds!!!
Unfortunately, I don't have many pictures of Humming birds yet. I'm never ready, when they come. I'll have to work on that.
Awesome hummer pics everyone! Mine are not as tame as some of yours are but I finally got a pic of one at my little tube feeder outside my kitchen window this morning but since I'm at work right now and my camera is at home I can't post it but will try to do that this evening
Nice!!
Thanks Nanny
Very nice pics burn!
