I aspire to be an ecentric old lady gardener with my red hat and purple outfit! LOL! With butterflies and moths following me everywhere! LOL! I already have my Monarch butterflies following me around my yard. My dh gets a kick out of seeing the butterflies flying along beside me! No kidding! I raised them and they must think I am their mama or something ... or maybe they know I will lead them to a good nectar source! LOL! Crazy is the ONLY way to be!!!!

Wow Shawna,
Your clematis are fabulous!!Your entire garden is wonderful. I,too, live in Louisville and my garden is quite behind yours. I have a few clematis and just LOVE them.I want to add more. This year should tell me if I can grow them!! My Hagley Hybrid has already wilted or something. It completely wilted so I cut it down to the ground. Most look pretty good. I so enjoyed your pictures. Thanks so much for your post. Lesley

Hi neighbor Lesley! Thank you alot, and They had some really great ones at Kroger on Goss! It took me awhile to unravel them and set them up in new homes. Usually it's just a twig or two. Even at Frank Otte's, good plants but no flowers and they're $5 more. I'll tell you the best Clems I ever got is from these old ladies at Ken Mulch, somewhere off outer loop. I swear these things had to 4 or 5 years old. Took hours to unwind them. I also got an awesome passionflower, but it didn't make it through the winter. What I wouldn't give for one more zone! I could maybe grow brugs in the ground.

sorry. slow access this morning. I pushed send twice...

These on the sunniest side of the pergola are all group 3 so they were about 12" tall in early March. They're going good, 'bout a foot and 1/2 from the top. Jackmanii is up and over on the other side.

a little Bonanza flower, these are small and the whole vine gets really super full.

The final blowout of Dr. Ruppel. There are 5 flowers under this bunch that you can't see. And this is a small clump. This one done leaped!

and it goes high too, from 12 inches to the top of the pergola in a month. The combination along this side of the screen is Roguchi, Venosa Violacea, yellow Tangutica and then this Bonanza. I love purple & yellow combinations.

Oh my! What eye candy! Beautiful vines & blooms, Shawna!

I need more shade in my yard. I would love to try growing Clematis. I can see how addicting these vines could be! LOL! What a nice journey to see yours! :-)

Louisville, KY

yeah Becky, you're a good candidate for Clematis for sure. They are just so carefree and hard to kill. Even those I think are dead always seem to sprout new green. And they just get better as the years pass. Here's a new little Betty Corning this morning.

Oh ..they are so purty!!...I planted two clematis "Violet Charm" last year and neither looks like they are...how old is yours...Jeanne

Louisville, KY

I put it in mid season last year, but it looked older than most, nice big root ball. can't say but it is pretty tall and climbing higher every day, and these I have also look more blue than the one in my encyclopedia or the ones on plantfiles, which are more ... violet. Maybe it's me with the wrong label.... or mine is a Lucky (Violet) Charm....

Yours kinda reminds me of Clematis "Elsa Spath"...Jeanne

I'm in love with all your Clematis, Soulja! Just gorgeous!

Sometimes, young Clematis can take on a bit of a different color hue than the more mature blooms. I posted pictures of my "Violet Charm" in PlantFiles. That's the color it looked like in my garden. Don't forget that besides maturity, soil and temperature will also effect the flower's color.

Sheesh, it would help if I posted a picture of "Violet Charm".
