Hi! Does anyone have MG plants, starts, cuttings for trade? (Have a decent tradelist, although it needs to be updated. Have more than that) This is my 1st try at gardening & I love it here at Daves. So many nice, generous, helpful people here. I have a lot of tiny seedlings w/barely any true leaves. I know it takes time, but I have seen so many great pics of MG's in forumns, that I would love to enjoy this one NOW! If you can help, I'd appreciate it so much!! I'm getting very impatient for this particular flower, that goes for Moonflower too. I would love 1 or 2 of them! So please send a Dmail if you can help & want to do a trade or something. Thanks so much, Michelle
MG's-Plants, Cuttings wanted asap!! Can you help?
they do take time and some posted have been grown inside over winter.
there are only a few mgs from cuttings that do well that i know of. most is from seeds.
also alot of whats being posted are some grow out crosses and seeds arent available yet for some.
seeds are the best way to start and yes it takes paitence but once going mgs are pretty fast growers and bloomers
also mgs really dont like to be disturbed once started growing so sending baby plants is at best iffy.
so best advice be patient and patience is worth it in morning glories
I know, I know. And next season I will start earlier. I got a late start, being my 1st try at it and all. But maybe it's worth a try?? I'll wait, but in the mean time I'd like to see if if would work. Any volunteers? Pls LMK. Thanks Michelle
Michelle, I don't really think any of the annual mgs would survive going thru the mail as cuttings (I've never tried though and won't even attempt it). Now the speices and perrenials would. You should hit some of the cactus nurseries there (I know it sounds dumb to go to a cactus place) BUT, they carry the caudiform morning glories... you can get some nice ones and bring them inside for the winter and I wish I could find some here, maybe I can in AZ. The place was closed when I went last year. Also, buy some of the potato vine Blackie Batatas, and the green one, the Black one sometimes is in bud when they sell it, I haven't seen it yet here, i'm waiting.. you can then get cuttings from those and root to your hearts content, I had them all over the place here in hanging baskets.. Here is one now, which did not survive outside and I had too many inside to bring this in.
You'll get there sooner than you think.. then you will be addicted like all of us.
It certainly isn't to late to start seeds now, you will still get lots of flowers. I am just starting all of mine...
Hey, Great pic Gourd! And thanks for the info & I am glad to hear it's not too late to be planting seeds. I'lm so excited to see a 1st bloom. It's killin' me! I have to look into some catcus places now! Thanks...Michelle
Oh definitely plant some seeds! I just planted seeds about 2 weeks ago and still have more to plant. They grow pretty quick once they germinate and will bloom nicely during the summer! Good luck!
i am still starting seeds now so here in sc its just getting safe enough for them to start. so plant away.
I'm also going to start some this week, did you start the ones I sent you? You will like the Fuji no Sora and Fuji no Momo plus whatever else I sent, don't remember now.. but they were fresh seeds...
I am going to start all the 2004 seeds because this one came out of my stash from that year.. it looks neat, so I'm starting the rest before the seeds aren't viable no more.
It was labeled wrong, but who care's, look at this from this morning.. and I'll post one from this afternoon at 4:PM so you can see the color changes.
wow. oh wow
i have them all ready to be started this weekend and all the envies they come in. dont know yet where i am gonna put them all. yes some from you Gourd and others from here. i just gotta find room in the laundry room. hehe
Oh marie, I sent some to latelybloomin77 last week and I was wondering if she started those...
Marie, d-mail me if you want any that I have, I may be a little slow, cuz we are going out for a few days.. but I'll get you some.
A.
opps sorry

A - This one kind of reminds me of Star of India! Which I really love! Speaking of which, I have grown a MG that I believe to be SOI on 2 different ocassions. Both times the vine only grew about 8-10", produced a couple of blooms that became seed pods, then seeds, then died! Huh! It never turned into a full vining MG! Since I don't know that much about SOI, I am wondering if that is a typical growth for that vine or do I have some kind of mutant vine?

This is what it was called Royal Robe/being sold as Star of India later. I added the photos to the plantfiles, it seems that it has morphed so many times and has become diluted throughout the years. I hope it continues to bloom, what an afternoon delight!
The only one that I saw in there that looked like this one was Ron's and I took his statement for Royal Robe from there.

Hey Gourd! Yours will be planted today in a mass planting of numerous seeds! I'm really looking forward to yours, cause they are so gorgeous. Last 2 pics of MG-Amazing.....! If you have that 2004 MG you posted, I would love a seed or 2! And my list is always being updated, so if I have any MG's which you don't have, (I doubt!!), I can send you the seeds also. Hey Becky, I will keep on planting MG seeds too!! I have several I planted 2-3 wks ago. Some don't make it, to outside transition (hardening). But if they all lived, where would I put them all! lol
I have some noid's growing in one of my trop. hibs. Needless to say they're about to go bye bye. If you don't mind the noid part you're welcome to these.
Anne
Anne - Can you post a photo of them?
what are noids? and if its seeds yes i would like some if they being destroyed. just throwing in.
I can but they're not blooming. They are almost certainly a violet blue. That's what I had the most of. I can post (when I get home) a picture of what was growing on that side of the arbor. The pot was near that end of the arbor.
Anne
Anne - Is it a vine or a ground cover or a ground creeper?
If it's the one I think it's a vine. I had mine going up lattice work to an arbor.
Can someone tell me about how long JMG seeds are viable - I have some that are about 3 years old.
Thanks,
Dee
Anne-Are you offering the noids for the violet-blue? I'll try them! I don't know what they are, but they sound like some part of the root. Just Dmail me if u can send. Thanks....Michelle
Dee - they can keep for a long time, if done properly. I have JMG seeds I collected in 2005, and I still get excellent germination results from them (I test these 2x a year, since they're "old").
Thanks Syrumani - I will just have to give them a try.
Dee
