This was found on one of my roses. It's the best picture I could get because it moves really fast for a caterpillar looking thing. What the heck is it? Come on claypa :)
CLOSED: Is this a hoverfly larvae?
Did it have little spines on its sides? I don't see anything caterpillar-like about it, really. Syrphid fly is a good bet, especially because there are so many; the odds are good.
I'd ask wallaby1!
It did not appear to have feet like a caterpillar but it had a definite top side and bottom side. I just wanted to make sure it was a good guy.
Thanks claypa, lol, it could be a syrphid fly larvae but the pic isn't good enough to see properly.
I have seen some, and they do move quite fast. The little feet wouldn't be noticeable without looking closely. Their shape is not quite like a caterpillar, they usually look fairly flat but a little rounded on the top and slightly pointed at the ends, some examples..

Thanks for the help guys. That's probably it, especially after your description of it, wallaby. It's shape did remind me a little bit of how a leach is flat with pointed ends.
Also, I'm sorry the picture sucked; I guess my macro skills were lacking that day :)
