Hi everyone,
I joined back in 2006, and about the same time I joined I found out I was going to have a baby (at 43 no less!). I had my son at the end of March last year, so my lilies ended up not getting any attention from me. If my husband had not turned off my Scarecrow sprinkler last summer, they wouldn't have gotten the attention from the deer that proceeded to eat them to the ground!
Anyway, I am tending my little lily patch again this year and have planted a few that are new to me (Candy Club and two double orientals I have on the way from Mainiac--Miss Jayne and Miss Liss), as well as replacing several that I lost to squirrels. I've also purchased some Gloriosa tubers that I plan to plant.
I'm hoping someone can direct me to a good site that has information about lily virus. I did briefly look over the long thread that Magnolialover had started, but didn't see any clear pics of exactly what this virus might look like. I have two lilies with variegated leaves that I am concerned about.
I look forward to reading about and looking at pictures of everyone's blooms this year--they are always so lovely. I'd like to share a link to my lilies from 2006 if anyone would like to look at them (plus there are lots of pics of my very adorable son!): http://community.webshots.com/user/Afortunado1?vhost=community

Here's one of the articles I surfaced during that discussion. http://www.inthecountrygardenandgifts.com/articles/hosta_virus_x.php

And you are correct, you son is very adorable. Lilies are nice too! :)
Thanks for the info Revclaus.
and thank you, Ticker, for agreeing with my assessment of my son :-)
Hey, I calls 'em as I sees 'em. :)
Here is some info specific to lily viruses, http://www.pwk.resteddoginn.ca/virus.php, diseases in general, http://www.mikesbackyardgarden.org/lilypest.html, and pics http://aolsearcht11.search.aol.com/aol/image?query=%22lily%20virus%22
It is believed that all lilies carry some virus, but when infected with 2 or more, then it really shows and takes it's toll on the health of the bulb. The best measure is to control aphids and all sap-sucking bugs and practice good garden hygene.
