curly willow

Madoc, Canada

I bought a small curly willow last year and was told it would grow up to 7 feet and I planted it about 5ft from my house also was told it would not hurt my foundation it is such a beauty and I love the branches how they curl and twine around the fence....now the problem is it is at least 5ft now and I am wondering now did I get the wrong info from this lady who had a green house in Ottawa...I can"t ask her as I was only visiting and she was selling them a garden sale.If any one has some pictures of them I would be so happy and advice

Ouch! That's VERY bad info you were given! It is a large tree (up to 20-25m tall, with a trunk up to a metre diameter), AND with invasive roots.

I'd dig it up and move it next autumn when the leaves fall; in the meantime, prune it back a bit. The recommended safe distance (at maturity) from foundations on shrinkable clay soils is 40m.

I just took a pic of the biggest curly willow I have ever seen here this week.
