Hippeastrum Seed

Holland, OH(Zone 5b)

I may have some hippeastrum seed soon. I have no idea how to handle them. I've seen some net references to "floating" them. Any resources or experience you can share would be appreciated.

Hi Snapple,

I have germinated in two ways.

1/ Just Plant them = Medium Success
2/ Got a Ice Cream container, half filled it with just normal water and dropped in the seeds. Do not have them too full with seeds, but then I put them under my washing tubs, in the dark and left them.

Within two weeks I had black seeds with green tails. I then planted the seed with the tail out and they are still growing.

I appreciate the information, greatly! It sounds like the easiest and most productive method I heard of. Certainly worth trying.

Debi.. What a cool way to germinate them. Only knew the slow way uncertain way. Yoru way looks so much easier and at least ya know ya transplanting viable seedlings.

Did you change the water at all or just left them and was it cool or hot under there. Not many p[laces to hide things in a trailer. do ya think under the sink would work in a cupboard or do they need some light too?

Hi Guys,

I put them in water, put under the washing tub sink and forgot about the for about two weeks. lol

I was amazed at what I saw, all these long green tails. No light at all, needed.

Try it, you will be amazed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Mate,

Debi
