I enjoy seeing how other hoya collectors arrange or display their hoyas. I also like to see where hoyas are placed. I live in Florida and keep the hoyas and orchids out all year round. Orchids and hoyas compliment each other very well. They require the same watering a sunlight for the most part and when the orchids are not blooming the hoyas show off their amazing foliage for a great tropical look.
Here are a few of my orchids and hoyas dispersed throught the yard.
Hoya places
Love the pictures! Thanks for sharing.
Ric...great growing!!! Yes, orchids and hoya/dischidia do grow well together...and compliment eachother nicely!!! You have a super garden and growing conditions...and a green thumb the size of Texas!!!
Carol
HI Jan....wow....you have some great hoya hangouts.....love it. Thanks for posting.
And thanks derge and Carol..........mother nature is on my side when it comes to growing hoyas. I have the heat and humidity. I'm sure the hoyas enjoy it more then I do.
She is a beautiful security guard!!
I love the way both of you display your hoyas and orchids. Thanks for posting the photos.
*sigh* Ya'll are making me miss FL. I'm having to downsize my collection this year because I just can't overwinter them properly here in NC. I moved up here from Orlando about a year and a half ago.
Here are some of my plants. I had all of these plants on the empty shelf you'll see in the next picture. They were a pain in the rump to untangle this morning when I got them ready to go outside.
And this was their home for the last 5-6 months. Tight quarters for this many plants. I think the shelf is around 18"x48". Needless to say that a few of the plants have suffered. But I think I've only had one complete casualty, the rest of them just need a little elbow room and some fresh outdoor air and natural light.
Lourdes, I love that plant stand ! Makes for a very nice display ^_^
Bellisimas plantas !
Paula
Thanks all. Great happy looking plants you all have. What a cute kitty, the hoya security guard.
Jan
Thank you Paula, I'm glad you like it.
Gracias!
Carai - Lourdes...how totally wonderful!!!! Do you get cold wx? could you grow Eriostemmas in the backyard?
Wow Lourdes your plants are ready to enter a show! Beautiful display.
Mullettman....in a few weeks you will get the heat and humidity up there in NC. Nice hoyas you got there!
Thank you Carol and Rick, it is quite a compliment coming from you guys.
As for your question Carol, the weather in the winter is really odd. It gets very cold and then warms up and continues to fluctuate constantly. Last winter we had days in the low 20’s and some near 90. Go figure.
You have the luckiest hoyas Carol......If get reincarnated as a hoya, I know exactly where to go. Great lush pics!!
Carol, Great photos!!
I just put a Hoya carnosa queen and Hoya australis in the ground , I am not sure they will survive it if we have a cold spell. It got down to 39 last winter but I brought all my Hoyas and Orchids. How cold does it get there in Hawaii?
Jan
The lowest i have seen is 55 at night. But carnosas do OK with dips into the 40's. I saw an australis growing up at 4000' where it gets into the 40s at night...it was outside but under cover...i think yours will do fine!!!
Thanks Ric...I will come back here too!!!
Jan, I've had carnosa do just fine for me year round outside, it dips into the mid 30's maybe once a winter every other year or so. The mid 40's occur pretty frequently here, I've heard no complaints from the outside Hoya!
Carol & Mark, Thanks.
Great! I'll let my KQ climb on a Christmas Palm tree.
Ric, great thread! I have grown my H. macgillivrayi for 5 years and have yet to see a bloom. I have bloom envy! Your guard kitty looks like a real terror and looks like he/she has a tough life. I am so happy to see the progress of your garden.
MM, all I want to know is how you are going to get those Hoyas back on your plant stand in the fall? It looks like you did a superb job over wintering them.
Jan, lovely yard and great display in your front entry.
Lourdes, you have the most organized and neat collection of plants that I have ever seen. I too love your plant stands and your plants are so healthy! I see you have a guard bird too. It appears we plant collectors are animal lovers too.
Carol, yours is a hard act to follow. I remember that tree and mounting orchids in it. That is absolutely beautiful and a view I feel sure you enjoy each morning with your tea. I feel a case of zone envy coming on!
Mel
Mel...thanks.
You should see the 'Tennessee Tree Fern' you sent me...probably 18' tall. Actually, it is an Australian Tree Fern...so you have a bit of Oz at your place too!!!
