I am so disgusted!!!

I found a kitten on the way home from football practice tonight.
She was in the middle of the road and i was upon her before i knew what it was. Luckily, my tires didnt hit her. My husband was behind me in the truck. He didnt hit her either. Anyway, i turned around to get her. Dh gave me that "youre not bringing it home look".
I found her still in the road, blood on her ear and a road rash on her face. I dont know if she was brushed by a car or if someone threw her out on to the road.
I checked with the houses nearby and noone claimed her. I took her to the fire dept, but they werent allowed pets.
So, with dhs look fresh in the head, i brought her home. I wiped her face, gave her milk and softened cat food for her. Shes TINY, I dont put her at more than 6 weeks old, maybe younger.
Shes friendly, purrs, and uses a litter box. Shes not a wild cat, shes been around people.
I just needed to vent. I KNOW i cant keep her, i already have 2, but i also couldnt leave her there. Its on my sons way to school, and i could almost hear him come monday "mom, you know that kitten..."
I dont want to take her to the pound because that means sudden death, and noone i know will take her.
Maybe ill be lucky and a day will turn in to a week, into a month..so on and so on.
Thanks for listening,
Jen

Jen, thank you so much for helping her! We found one of our kitties in the tunnel, smack in the middle. Just a tiny little thing too. She was so small that when a truck passed her, it blew her in the gutter. My husband jumped out the truck and pulled her out from harm. We took her home. I didn't want to keep her because I had already had pleny kitties (all rescued). She made #12. Well, here it is, 4 years later and "Friday" is fat and happy. It breaks my heart to see little animals suffering because of the cruelness of ignorant people. I will be praying that you find a good home for her. God bless, Lisa

Jen-
Please feel free to vent!

I think you were meant to find that cat. I am a firm believer that cats chose their people. If there's absolutely no one who will take her right now, I'm sure your DH isn't so hard-hearted that he wouldn't allow her to stay for as long as it took to get her healed up and healthy. Girl, if you lived down the street from me, I'd be on your doorstep in a heartbeat. Maybe you've got a neighbor here in the garden who could help you out? In any case, please keep us updated on her.

I'm not generally a cat person, but what few cats I do have/had, have all chosen me, by fate or accident or what-have-you.

I'm gonna ramble, just to warn you : )

I nearly shot "Casper" (I thought he was a raccoon going after my ducks or in the garbage- it was late, all I saw was his eyes, we have a big rabies problem here, etc etc etc) and in the second I hesitated, he meowed, horribly off key. He was startled, and you could tell he'd been mistreated. It took me nearly all night to convince him to come in the house. I couldn't seem to lure him with "here kitty kitty"....Turns out he's stone deaf, and has a nerve disorder that causes him to walk like a drunk. Well we already had three housecats, but no one wanted a deaf, retarded (vet's actual word, can you believe it?) cat. So we let the other cats decide for us. They welcomed him without a problem, and that was it. Some things are just supposed to be, you know?

i think shes already found a home...shes sleeping soundly on my teenagers bed. brandon, who was with me when i found her asked me if she was going to be here in the morning.
what do ya say to that?

bucky, your comment about cats choose their people, let me tell you!!
they have just about finished building this new road that takes about 20 mins off our trip home from the field. its paved, but not marked, so its technically closed. i decided to risk it anyway. JUST as i turned on to it my son informed me their was a sheriff behind me...yikes. the sheriff stopped to put the road blocks back up (someone else had moved them) which gave me time to turn on to a real road. i met my husband half way down that road and was able to tell him "sheriff" he understood and turned around. im rambling......anyhow, so i backtracked all the way around and thats when i found the kitten. if i wouldve gone that way in the first place, i dont think she would have been there....i KNOW she wouldnt have been there.
gifts from god are there if you look.

The kitty was meant to find you. After we lost Aristotle ( our 20 lb. cat) I met two; the one, near to starvation-he was not meant to be with us, so we boarded him at our cat vet and got his shots, until he adopted friends of ours, he is now a pure black, at least partially Oriental shorthair, who lets them live in his apt. The second was found by two little boys, at an age ,more apt to tease , than to approach my housemate to see if he was her cat, it was not, but she knew a young woman, whose parents now have an in-house maitre'de cat at the bed and breakfast. The 3rd cat,was found hit in the middle of the road at night. I am seldom out at night and we saw the green eyes, just as we were headed home. She just hummed at me , when I picked her up and took her to the animal ER, even though she probably had been on her own for months (she was quite young, malnurshished and with kidney damage, we all knew she was the one. It only took her 2 days to work things out with the poodles and even though, there have been ongoing medical $$, Casey has been the best medicine that I have had in the last few years, she likes her belly rubbed and loves to croon at and beat up on her catnip snake. They find us and for me, it was just the right time and a perfect match-no pain pill works as well as a purring kitty. Congratulations from all of us.

Jen, you have done a wonderful thing, and your husband will soon see that also. We have 5 housecats,(plus one who is trying hard to move in and will before winter sets in), and virtually all of them started out as strays who chose us as their family. I have one special to me, my Bummy, he sleeps on the pillow between dh and I, with his little paw in my hand. He gives dh and I both kisses when we go to bed. When this cat adopted us, his family, (our former neighbors), had moved away, tried to take him, but he wouldn't stay. He chose to stay here and moved in with us. He has truly been a blessing to this family.

I'm new to this forum and I hope you don't think I'm totally crazy! Let me introduce myself. I'm Joan from North Dakota.

Joan, who loves cats as much as I love my kids. I also love that crazy rabbit we aquired!

Jen I know how you feel and I have two cat's of my own. I know how hard it is to have to worry about that little kitten and finding a home for it. God bless you for your kindness and it broke my heart to read some of the stories here. Have you tried to put an add in the paper, somebody will take it because it is a kitten, It is harder to find homes for older cat's.
It is so sad to know that people can be so curel to animals, I would take it if I lived close to you. Our Humane Society here trys to find homes for them instead of putting them to sleep. What we all need to do is write our congressman and try to get stiffer laws put into effect on getting our animals fixed and that would solve some of the problem. I have a stray Siames that is pregnant and I am trying to get her to trust me, she has been so mistreated that she is scared of everyone. I hope that I can get her before she has her kittens, it will be cold soon and I don't want to see them homeless as well. I hope that you can keep it and thank you so much for caring.

I think Bucky is absolutely right, kitties do chose their people. I think they really consider us as their pets. Over 20 years ago when I was still living alone, I was adopted by the kitty living next door. He was all black and started coming over to my apartment and waiting for me when I got home from work. Finally, the girl who owned the cat gave him to me, hehe like she had a choice. She didn't much care for him anyway, but I sure did, he was my good friend and very protective of "his turf". About 6 months after that, another little black kitty showed up at my door with a broken leg. When I opened the door, she came inside and headed straight to "Kitty's" food bowl (that was his name, I didn't name him). I thought Kitty would attack her, but he didn't. He let her eat his dinner and kinda looked at me like "Looks like the two of us are gonna have to make room for another". So, I took her to the vet, there wasn't much he could do about her leg, it had healed broken, got her spayed and named her Tripoli. I had her with me for over 20 years through two homes and two wives.

I sure do miss Tripoli.....

Msjen,I just aquired a kitten although I didn't find it in the road.We live on a dead end road that leads onto a dirt road that is about 2 miles long. It's all state land and theres a state launching site(boat launch) at the end.Last week my Dh and I went for a walk to check out the flora and fauna. On the way back I heard a sound thet sounded like a mew.I stopped and told my hubby SSHHHHH!! I called out "here kitty" and here it comes,a little 6 week old orange tiger kitten. Its missing most of one ear, like a birth defect ,not an injury. My hubby was like NO WAY!!! We have a cat,and we have a lot of chickens and young birds running around which are very tempting for a feline. But hes been good so far,and I love him.Even our Great Dane seems to like it although we were afraid she would eat it for a snack. people are always dumping full grown cats down here, this was the first kitten we've found. There are alot of foxes around so it could be they get eatten before we see them.It ticks you off to think someone could do that but it costs money to feed and house them ,or to get them nueterd, and why should they pay out money if they can dump it and someone will do it for them?? For windsurfer and others. There is an organization , Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah; that runs a very large organization,-their website-www.bestfriends.com may be able to put you in touch with people in your area, who are experienced in dealing with feral cats, if the mom cat continues to avoid your help. They are a good resource for information and also can provide care for many animals considered unadoptable. When I am able to travel, I am going there for a visit. Their website has upbeat stories(as does their member magazine)

Hi gals -once a stray Mother cat drug 5 babies into our garage. I gathered them all up in a box and took them to my son's soccer game, I got rid of all but one, including the mother. We then went door to door in a subdivision til we found a home for the last one. We felt so good about it, we had made a lot of folks happy that day.

Good for you MsJen! We live close to Lincoln about a mile off the main highway. We seem to be the dumping ground for everything - cats, dogs, old furniture, tires, etc. etc. (grrr) Several years ago I happened to look to the field north of our place and I could see these little yellow fluffs bouncing up in the air. I thought what the heck is that and just kept watching. The bouncing fluffs got closer and I realized they were 4 kittens. We have about 15 adopted cats (actually lost count). We have very few mice or rats on our farm. One of dd's friends were here and helped my dd do her chores when the "herd" of cats came running. She laughed and said it looked like that commerical where the cowboys are doing the cat round up. Our vet does a bulk "fixing" for us so we try to do our part in stopping the population. We did have a couple of cats that had kittens this year so we're due for another vet visit.
