Lets honour all our other spring treasures...Part II

somewhere, PA

Here's another shot of that hillside I posted a few days ago.

And I should probably not cheat on the poll... I'll pick Jun 7.

Really nice Tammy--there is a white or light pink colored flower near the bottom by the purple iris over to the right--what is that? and the dark purple one to the left of that one, I like the nice "mounding" shape of them.

somewhere, PA

those are geraniums! I just love them. I think the pale pink one you
are referring to is Geranium cinereum 'Ballerina'. I don't recall what
the darker pink one is off hand. Mind if I post more? They are not really
bulb plants.... Here's the hillside on the other side of the garage.

post away Tammy! I'm trying to get fall sown perennial planning done now.

Here's a pretty iris

Here's a pink garden ... Neal might like this one?

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Of course I do! I love 'em all! I'm so impressed the how your hillside has progressed! That rich, gold iris is stunning, and what is the little yellow flower around it?

somewhere, PA

Neal - that's a hieracium maculatum. Its real easy from seed and has
pretty mottled folliage with little yellow flowers the bloom much of the summer.
It does gently self seed. I very much like it. If you want to try it, I'll tuck some
seed in with the next care package going to you. (Or anyone else who wants
to try it.)

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

Your borders are wonderful Tammy! Congratulations!

somewhere, PA

thank you! This is probably the prettiest spring I can remember. Its been
cool and lots of rain. And for me... I was able to get ahead of the weeding.
Though I know they are out there plotting a counter attack

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Oh yes! Thanks Tammy, that would be awesome! You and wallaby have got me addicted to seed starting, and now its my favorite way to get new plants. I've got the nicest batch of Primula japonica seedlings going, and aint no drought gonna get these babies! I feel like I can really get to know the plant and its specific needs that way, and I like knowing what to look for when they start reseeding. Don't you hate the realization that you've just weeded out a bunch of flowers, LOL!

and

Allium schubertii
wonder if they will grow in shady bed in Ok heat ??

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

Tazzy,
By the time high summer gets here both of those have usually pretty much exited the scene.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

do they come back in spring?

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

This is a cheat. Potted, but I have been waiting for it to bloom for a long time. Sprekelia formosissima. Patti

Wow that Ixolirion is sooo beautiful! Is it winter hard jmorth?

So interesting! never seen a Scilla pratensis neither, Patti! It's gorgeous! The Ixolirion and the Scilla are going on my wanting list for next year!

I love Camassia's too, just a pity they have a very short blooming period..
Sprekelia formosissima is very special , I wish it was more hardy..

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

Tazzy, bonitin,
Theoretically, the Allium schubertii and the Ixolirion should return but the reality for me has not lived up to the theoretics for schubertii ever. Ixolirion has had some returns. Both get fall planted and have magnificent spring showing the first year.
bbrookrd, that's a fine, intense blue on that scilla. Like you, I grow Aztecs in pots; mine bloomed a few years ago but nothing the last two years. I was just going to discard them this year when I noticed a red spike emerging.

Impressive example of roundularity.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Love the Scadoxus. None of mine are blooming :o(

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

they like shade here Marie--and it just re-emerged about 7 days ago, definitely a late bloomer

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Mine get morning sun and afternoon shade too. My garden is off this year. Maybe in a few more weeks.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

things have been slower than normal for me too Marie--very dry here this spring

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Tammy! The mottled leaves are beautiful, an added plus!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

We have been colder and wetter here lately. Here is Camassia cusickii that I posted earlier, now open. I think I will add more. Patti

Here is one that I love, but fear that it will run amok. Third year and it is behaving. Nectaroscordum siculum. Patti

somewhere, PA

Patti - that reminds me of an allium. Very nice. I gather its a self seeder
by reputation?

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Tammy it has many names including the some that refer to it as an allium. It supposedly self seeds and has offsets, so I am assuming it could get out of control. I like it's subtle color and haunting droopy bells. I have not smelled it, but
some people don't like it. Mine are planted away from any doors. I have it in two places. I do love most alliums. Patti

Much to my surprise due to my limited memory of some of my bulb children, I have about more of those 50 Amethyst Meadow Squill, Dalmation Scilla or Scilla pratensis coming up just now in another area of the garden. They are a great late treat. I also have Fritillaria pontica blooming and nice group of Ipheion uniflorum 'White star' appearing now. I was so busy trying to finish up the veg garden and some containers that I didn't take any pictures. I will today. I have a mystery bulb/plant appearing. I will have to bend over and see if there is a tag. It is impressive in form. But I don't have a clue. Love the mystery Patti

somewhere, PA

How exciting Patti!

somewhere, PA

Deb - did that lily bloom yet?

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

oooh. i want to see your "Amethyst Meadow"!
; )
