Love readin about everyone's protector stories,
and learning about the big dogs and donkey's.
I can not post pics right now(??don't know why yet)
but somewhere i have a pic of a loaded pack mule
stomping and mashing with it's head a cougar that
wandered into the hunting camp. It also show's the
mule flinging the cat in the air! It is an amazing group
of pics, wish I had the link. So, don't count out mules,
looks like they are up to the job, too.

Reeely looking forward to some chicken and dumplings.^_^

I'm not big on mules. You do find a few good, easy going ones but many can be very hard to train. They have memories longer than elephants and they hold grudges. They also are notorious for being hardmouthed. And they are world famous for being stubborn. That is no old wives tale! LOL But they are very cute when they are little.

This one belongs to my friend. She is by his jack out of his standardbred mare. They named her Jasemine. She is 1 day old in this pic. I saw her a couple of days ago and she is really getting to be a rounder. She kicked the fire out of her dam. She was born tall and is growing like a weed. She is a saddle mule which means she is gaited so she will be worth quite a lot of money as a riding mule when she is older.

My grandfather's family in Tennessee bred mules for the army during WWI. They still had them on the farm when I used to visit. Since they were breeders of Tennessee Walkers (saddle horses), the mules were beautifully gaited. But I remember being put up on one bareback when I was about eight and it had the sharpest backbone I ever felt! I was used to horses and ponies and it was a real shock. I think they need special saddles?

Most folks use the same saddles they use for their horses. The mules here are round fat like horses.

A couple of my friends showing their mules last year. The owner of the black and white spotted mule turned down $10,000 for him.

Wow, I had no idea they could garner that much
money.
The little one is cute, with ears only a mother could
love-but maybe not her kick.

oh, heavens, yes! mule lovers LOVE their mules!!! i used to break and train mules. some of them broke me LOL [wasn't funny at the time!] one i recall named The Senator was a small sized gaited mule. he brought around 10-13 G, and that was back in the late 80s... i have only owned one mule, but i worked for a local horse trainer/breeder mule skinner... i just heard that over the weekend antoher of our local mule skinners passed away...
